i dont have any medical advice or experience for this, but i would think that you can increase it gradually and see how he handles it. if he enjoys the walk and doesnt get tired and still has energy left over, then increase it a little bit every few days and see how he reacts. if he ever gets sluggish then you would probably want to decrease it slightly again. you dont want to increase it by a mile in one day and find out 3/4 of the way through that is too far for him.
