| I had a chihuahua that had the same thing. I beleive it is a dew claw and they are normally removed as a puppy. He lived until 16 and never had a problem with it, thought it creeped me out to cut the toenail on it.

| Yes it is a dewclaw and if it wasnt removed at birth it would have to be removed surgically now...but it is ok to stay there forever with lots of care to keep it short and from curling under...Reece has his and Soleil doesnt...but we keep his trimmed as we would his regular nails...your not dumb OR an idiot...a dummy wouldnt ask!! | One of my babies still has his dew claws on both front legs. He is 6 now, and there is not a problem with it at all and it doesn't bother me. Most breeders will have the dew claws removed when they have the tails docked, at 3 days old. However I guess there are some that don't do that part. |

| I feel so stupid for asking what most people would already know but Tank was my first Yorkie and when I got him I just assumed it was a yorkie thing, then I get Lana and she didn't have it so I was a little freaked. It is kinda creepy a nail just hanging there. |

BANNED! | It is a dewclaw. They are usually removed at birth within 3 to 5 days of age, however if it is on the rear leg it could have been missed since not all yorkie puppies have them on their rear legs. It can easliy get caught while playing or such and I suggest having it removed. If you don't want to have it removed you will need to keep the nail trimmed short and be careful to watch and make sure your baby doesnt get it tore on anything. |

| Sunnie has a front dewie that grew back. The vet said that it was a partial amputation and the stub that's left grows a straight nail that I keep short. Rocky's back dewclaws had 2 joints out like thumbs. I had them removed so he would not tear them off.
