| It can be longer than that. Some up to or over a year. I heard they can have silent heat too. Most of the tiny ones have theirs late. Just give it some time... If you are planning on spaying her, you should do it before she has her first heat. I hope I helped with your question.

| you might not be able to tell whether or not she did if you don't look closely... they might not leak blood at all.. Belle's 1st cycle was at bout 9 months... but she only really leaked like 2 days... check her vagina to see if it's swollen, same with her nipples...

| its best to go ahead and get her spayed before she has her first heat. heats can be from 6-24 months. if their first heat doesn't happen by 14 months (by what i have read), get her spayed asap. there are probably some issues causing her not to go into heat at the proper time.

| Why would you want her to? It's horribly messy and not very pleasant at all.

| Please get her spayed before she has her first heat. By doing so you will practically eliminate her chance of getting mammary cancer later on. The risk of malignant mammary tumors in dogs spayed prior to their first heat is 0.05%. It is 8% for dog spayed after one heat, and 26% in dogs spayed after their second heat. http://www.peteducation.com/article....&articleid=460 |

| I don't want her to go into heat, but I was just wondering because I am planning on getting her fixed in feb. because the county i live in does a "prevent a litter" month and i can get her fixed for $40. she will be 1 in feb. so hopefully she won't start before then.... |

| That is sure nice that your county does that. Have you asked them questions about what anesthesia they use, if they give pain med, if the surgery tables are heated, if they do bloodwork...?
