| If you decide to get a Yorkie though read about them and see how their personality is... they are beautiful and loving dogs but incredibly stubborn, sometimes difficult to toilet train, some are demanding... we love them but they really are little terrors! Good luck

| I have never had a problem housebreaking mine, they usually get the hang of the pee pads very quick... I never brush mines teeth, I give them greenies and hard kibble. Mine is 16 weeks and has been going up and down the back porch steps for the last 2 weeks now..and as far as grooming, it depends on how often you take them..Mine get brushed at home every day, and they go to the groomers 3-4 times a year at which it is $25-$35 each time. As far as food, mine is still (after having her over 4 weeks), still on her same 4 lb bag of food, and isn't even 1/2 done with it..for all 6 of mine(4 inside, 2 outside dogs), it cost me around $45/mo to feed them, and I free feed the 4 inside, so food isn't very costly for one yorkie, as they don't eat a whole lot...good luck if you get one..I love mine, and none of them are really very stubborn. |

| I brush my guys teeth every night, but can't come up with a cost for their food , because I have other dogs. I think it would be about 50 if I only had the two of them. Yes they can climb up and down steps as they get older, but you have to get them use to it.

| Yes, they can climb stairs when they are older as long as yours isn't extremely tiny. I brush teeth everyday but you don't have to do it that often. We used to spend no more than $70 a year for Ellie's kibble. Now we homecook and it is about $350. I groom her myself so it is free. Usually Yorkies go to the groomer every 1-3 months and it will cost between $20 and $50 maybe. Those aren't the only costs to consider though. Vet bills are expensive. Our were very cheap til this year. Ellie has had some health issues this year and we have spend over $2000.

| I have two yorkies, both can climb steps, I spend less than $10 a month on food between the two of them, and I get them groomed maybe once every 6th months, and it costs about $30 per dog. Seems relatively inexpensive, but trust me, spoiling them costs a lot more!! Any piece of clothing for your dog will be between 10 an 20 bucks, treats anywhere from 6 to 12 dollars a bag, toys, collars, harnesses, bags to carry them in, I can go on and on, I spend between 100 and 200 dollars a month on them. But that's my personal choice, you can do it for much cheaper. There are some threads on here where people say about how much they spend a month on their dogs, do some research on the site. I think many people have admitted to how much they spend on their dogs.

| Welcome to YorkieTalk!! Also keep in mind as Ellie May pointed out that it's important to have money set aside for emergencies or health issues. Vet bills can be very expensive and that's something to keep in mind. Make sure to buy from a reputable breeder who does health testing on her dogs

I agree 100%. The cost of food, grooming, etc. are a very small part of the total cost of owning a dog over its lifetime. Keep in mind that as your dog ages, he will need more frequent vet visits and most likely will develop health issues that may require medication. Here is a great article on the cost of owning a dog: http://www.peteducation.com/article....articleid=1543 Starting with a puppy from a reputable breeder who knows her lines and does genetic and health screening before breeding is the most important thing. Spend the extra money now to get a puppy from a breeder like that and avoid being tempted by "bargain" puppies who may cost you a fortune in vet bills over its lifetime. Be sure and get a bile acids test on your puppy before you bring him home to make sure he is free of liver disease. | |
