Congrats on your puppy!

When we got out yorkie (he is 6 months now) we already had the no biting, domanice thing down. Our Boxer (6 yrs old) was a very hard headed puppy. He would bite and growl and chew alot (Boxers have jaws of steel). Anyway, when he would bite during play we would say no real quick and loud and end the game. When he would chew on the wrong thing we would say no and give him the correct thing to chew on (I think that it is better to get "toys" confuse them). When he would growl out of dominace we would pick him up right below eye level, tell him no, and wait till he looked away and became still. It is important to make sure that they become completely submissive before you let them go. Sometimes they will struggle for a minute or two. Also remember that a puppy needs time to learn. You are taking the place of it's mother, it is up to you to consitently tell them what they can and can't do. Hope this helps. After learning with out boxer our yorkie has been a breeze.

my Bichon did this untl she was about 8 mos old. Drove me nuts. I tried bitter apple and she loved the taste. She grew out of the chewing and mouthing/biting, thank God!

i have a 2 yr old shorkie. A yorkie, and shih tzu mix, and he is always growling and picking on my mini shnauzer and he does nothing to him. Why does he do this and how do I stop it?

He's probably trying to get him to play with him.

I have a 14 month old shorkie also. She was never really biter We got her when she was about 14 weeks old. I alos have a 10 month old yorkie who is just beginning to grow out of his biting phase. Then we have a 3 month old shih tzu who is a biter. When we yell ouch and say NO BITE! He stops. I think biting is a stage for a young puppy because they are teething really bad. I buy him vinyl bones and put them in the freezer. He has already attacked my two bassets who are 55 lbs each and made them cry. I'm hoping that he grows out of it like my other two did but I find as long a they're puppies they are going to bite. It's sort of like a baby when you put your finger near them they are going to bite.

I did the OUCH!!! thing too and it works great. She's teething so she can't really help it unless you make her aware it hurts you.

The growling part she just wants to play. I don't suggest you growl back at her you need to make sure she understand your the human and she's the dog. Why not teach her to play fetch. Have tiny treat in hand to start training her.

Remember at eight weeks she should still be learning from her mom. You are the caregiver now. She is very young and will probably not be able to understand what you want from her.

If you let her lose around the house she probably marked around the house and thinks that's her potty station. I suggest you buy a play pen or keep her in one room. Right after feeding take her outside and give her a treat for doing her necessities outside. When you see her looking and smelling around that's when she's looking for a spot to pee. Quickly take her outside and praise her. It might be cute since it's not a whole lot but the bigger they get the harder it is to train them. (You know I don't recommend she goes outside until she gets all her shots, peepads are great)

All good advice...I can tell you my experience w/my Apple, when I got her, but she was already 11 1/2 weeks...Everytime she would nip me, I'd say a firm no, and leave the room...I'd actually go in my bedroom and close the door...She caught on, quickly, I'd leave if she nipped me...Btw, Shih Tzu is spelled like this, so you don't have to bleep it lolol....Welcome to YT and congrats!
