This shih tzu is going on 10 years old, she goes all over this whole acre in the back yard marking and doing that thing with her front paws..it's hillarious..she lifts her leg on her pee pad too, guess to keep from getting wet..:)

It takes up a good portion of their underside and it's hard to not touch it when you pick them up. for some reason it just grosses me out. At least if you grow their hair long, you can't see the penis anymore but then they pee on their hair and stink. Male dog urine stinks much worse than female urine too and is usually more concentrated. Rylie (parent's yorkie that I'm taking care of right now) peed on my carpet and it was so yellow! I had to scrub and scrub and there is still a stain there :( Also, male dogs tend to hump which is annoying. And the leg lifting annoys the crap out of my for some reason. I just don't understand why they can't just squat. If I get a male, he'll be neutered ASAP in hopes he won't develop bad habits, lift his leg, and maybe his penis will stay tiny. I know males tend to me sweeter and more clingy whereas females tend to be more independent but I guess I kindof like my pets to be independent (but still sweet and cuddly at times). I love Rylie but he will pester the crap out of me sometimes, constantly wanting me to play with him (whereas Lacy can entertain himself). Anyways, I guess I just really like having female animals because I just like having all "my girls" around. If I had a boy yorkie, everyone would think he was a girl because he'd be wearing bows and cute clothes (and I like the girly boy clothes). People have mistaken Rylie for a girl since I've had him. Also, males tend to mark and I know there are belly bands but I don't really want to have to use belly bands on one of my dogs

If you're gonna be a vet I think you need to get over the 'penis' issue!:D

well yeah, you can't tell people you only see female animals, doesn't work like that:D

I did not get a girl to dress up, I guess my main motivation was the lifting issue. I did not realise they rarely lift when they are so small ...

It' s just really funny, because people don't think females lift their legs and hump, and believe me they do...I think too many times, a lot of us were brought up to believe that females are easier to housebreak, etc. etc. and actually Fritz, even though I got him at 5 1/2 mos. was very easy to housebreak....I mostly have girls, well, all but one, but not because I like them any better(my little boy is the sweetest thing), but because hubby loves to give belly rubs, and he said he doesn't want to touch their little thingy...LOL but, he does give Fritz his belly rubs, but, you can watch him give them, he's always watching where his hand is at..:D

Yeah I know LOL...I'm getting better. I'm much more okay with the penis than nasty testicles hanging down between their legs (especially on a shorthaired dog!). But testicles can be removed :D I'll be pushing neutering BIG TIME :p LOL..I always joke with my classmates that I'm going to have a cat & toy breed dog practice only..hmmm maybe I'll change it to a cat and FEMALE toy breed dog practice Haha

I have to admit...I can tell a difference between my boys urine and my daughter's little yorkie girls' urine.... The boys' is a deeper yellow and stains more so than the girls did....At least on my carpets...:(

I have been keeping my parent's yorkie, Rylie for the past 7 weeks and his pee is much yellower than Lacys and definitely stinkier. He had an accident on my carpet and it left a yellow stain :(

Alex there are 3# Biewers and there are 8# Biewers. Just like people. The standard is 4-7# but some are bigger and others smaller.

On my website, under Meri & Tobias' pictures at 11 weeks 1 boy is 1.15#, the girl is 1.35# and the other is almost. 2 of the 3 will be small as adults.

I have a 10 pound boy who is the love of my life. I was specifically looking for a boy. Now I would like to get a girl, but only because Conner gets along so much better with the girls. My Conner is neutered and has never marked, is potty trained outside (he has his own covered pen), and he does not share very well.

i thought that this was an interesting topic. I want a girl next only because i have a boy and I want one of each. (not to breed all my pets will be altered) I would be just as interested in a young adult as I would a puppy. i love the smaller ones because i try not to leave my dogs home if I don't have to. It is alot harder sneaking a 12lb dog opposed to a 3lb, hehe I have tried. I think that the most important factor with my female will be temperment. Structure is also important to me, more than size. A well built yorkie looks beautiful regardless of coat, color, and size. thought that i would add my 2 cents :)
