| Need Help finding a safe Hidden Fence for less than 5 lb. Yorkie Hello Everyone, hope yall are having a nice day :-) I have a problem. I need to find an hidden fence system for my rental property for my Yorkie who is below 5 lbs. Hidden Fencings varies in material and technology, for instance: wireless, underground wires, Innotek is a popular brand and they all have shock collars I do believe. Anyway, I need a way to keep my little Tinkerbell in the yard without building any kind of structures in the yard, like a typical chain link fence because I am renting the property. However, on most of the hidden fences that I have read about, they say "For Dogs Above 5 Pounds" and so I am wondering if any of you use a hidden fence and also have a smaller yorkie under 5 lbs. that is safe and works well. Tinkerbell is very bull headed and so I think it might be challenging for her to be shocked. Anyway, any advice you can provide me with is surely appreciated! Thanks to All Yorkie Lovers!

| Radio fences ARE NOT recommended for such small dogs! We have one for our big Labs, but they are way too strong for a yorkie! Please reconsider!

| The hidden fences requires the animal to wear a shock collar. I don't like to see anything or anybody get shocked. Why don't you get one of those exercise pens at the pet store. They come in different sizes, different materials, add on sections and fold flat when not needed. When you move you take it with you.

| The exercise pen is a good idea. Have you seen the size of those collars for the fence? They are really big and heavy for such a small dog. We had one a long time ago for our border collie and lab, the lab completely disregarded the shock and the one time the border collie did get out - he wouldn't come back in! Besides, you really don't want to let the little thing out by itself, anything could happen and the pup could easily be stolen! I have a really long retractacle lead, I sit on the porch and let my dog wander a bit with it, and then we walk together for awhile. Windy and Lida Rose |

| I agree with everyone else. Here are a couple of pics. of some excercise pens to give you an idea. The chain link one is from Petsmart and is a little more expensive. The other one is from Petedge. I hope I have been of some help. |

| Also please remember that invisible fences are designed to keep your pet in but they don't keep other animals out and that doesn't seem very safe to me. |

| I have to agree with everyone else. Nala is 10lbs and I still wouldn't use it for her. They are designed for bigger dogs a 5lbs yorkie is way too small. Jo-Jo made a very good point about not keeping other dogs out. |

I have been thinking about the excercise pens as well. Macy is one who runs out into the street all the time, so ive decided a pen is best for her. Those invisible fences are not realy made for a dog that small. Plus the pen is also cheaper lol. | |

| I've been shocked by a taser at work, and I know the voltage is higher, but I'm sure it feels the same -- hurts like he**!!! I don't think I could subject my baby to that sort of thing. I guess it's a tough decision since you're renting. I do like those exercise pens that were posted, though.

| fences I bought a mat that was suppose to prevent a dog from going into a room ..I put it in front of the door and mine walked over it like it was not there..I put my hand on it and it gave off a tingly sensation, but they were too light to trigger it. I tried "Snappy Trainers" to keep them out of a newly carpeted living area and they tip toed around them like they were in a mine field..so I doubt anything works except play yards and x-pens. |

| Noooooo! DOGS HAVE BEEN KILLED USING RADIO FENCES - DOGS MUCH BIGGER THAN A YORKIE! If the collar short circuts the dog gets zapped again and again. Plus, other dogs have gotten loose when the fence wasn't working properly, or when the owner turned it off and forgot it wasn't on. DON'T use these fences - esp. with a dog so small. Get a regular fence if you are going to go that route, and make sure that there is no gap in the fence line that a Yorkie can get through. If you have an earthdog boy like my Bun, an extra line of chicken wire around the base is advisable. |

| Thanks to All of YOU for CHANGING my MIND!!!!!!! Thank you EVERYONE for being so INFORMATIVE and for SAVING my little baby girl. I can't believe I didn't consider: 1.) that other animals could get her 2) that she could die from the shock itself 3) the weight of the transmitter and 4) there are better alternatives! Thanks so much for warning me and also for offering better alternatives I think that we find some kind of temporary fence for her. Thank All Of YOU!!!!!
