| Is it okay to give real chicken strips as snacks? I never knew feeding a dog could be so complicated. It makes me wonder how any of my other dogs survived without me worrying about every little thing. Anyways, I know how people on this site are so down on any well known products. It seems like every snack food or chew treat is criticized for one reason or another, whether it is nutrition or choking threat. I am just searching for a treat that will be healthy but that my dogs will like. I know everyone on here talks about those bully sticks, but I tried them a couple of times and my dogs had no interest. I have been buying some dehydrated pure chicken breast treats lately which my dogs love. It seems like they should be okay as they are nothing but chicken breast, but for 3 dogs they get expensive. So lately, Ive jsut been baking chicken tenderlions, nothing on them, and giving them as treats. It seems like they are healthier and actually are cheaper than the treats. Also are there any chew treats that are acceptable? I still give greenies as my dogs love them and my vet says they safe, but I worry each time I give them? I would love to find something they can have to chew on as well as a snack for treats? Any suggestions? Laura |

| Plain chicken is fine for treats Much healthier and free of the preservatives in packaged treats.

| That sounds like a perfect treat! I was giving mine the chicken jerky, but last week Luna started throwing up at night, it was all of her dinner, with these splinters of chicken jerky She was gulping them down so Izzy couldn't steal it from her, I guess. Anyway, now they only get the jerky if I break it up for them and they only get a few little pieces. I may try the baked chicken, that sounds so good and I know that they'd love it

| Chicken is just fine for a snack. I wouldn't give fat or skin though. I don't like Greenies. Ellie's vet doesn't have a problem with them but I will not give them. There are no chewy dog treats I will let Ellie have right now and most chew sticks and raw hides are not safe in my opinion. Bully sticks are safe I think but they gross me out, so they are not allowed either.

| Thanks everyone...I figured it was okay, but with all of this talk about having to watch the protein I was worried. Believe it or not, buying the big bag of chicken tenderloins and using them for snacks is cheaper than some of the treats I have been buying. I love spoiling my girls and being able to give them special so glad to hear I am not hurting them. Laura |
