| wish I had an answer for you - I used to breed, but never had this problem - I would say yes, because it's better than nothing. can you post in the breeder section if you don't get the answers you need.

| I had that happen when my shih tzu had puppies years ago..they were inside of course, but, the one little girl kept getting pushed aside...I would put her up to her mom, but the mom kept pushing her back..the mother knew she wasn't going to make it, and that's instinct to push them away...You can try anything you can think of to get down the puppy, but, most likely it's not going to make it.. |

OP~ I would try to call the vet and see what they say, even an emergency vet if you have to. If any of the breeders are online, I would try to PM them ASAP. Best of luck with the pup and I will keep it in my prayers.

| Hi Im sorry to hear about the pup, You shouldnt feed a cold pup, Try and warm it up first, you can rub it and wrap it in a cloth , but try and rub some warmth back into it. Then if it warms up try feeding it a little, I have used can cream half water, Its not very good and may give it the poops, But any thing is better then nothing right now, The baby formula may work, Id call and ask the vet first. Most mother dogs know when some thing is not right with the pup, thats why they push it out, But they also do this to the weak ones. So all you can do is try. I wish you luck and will be praying for the little one. |

| Why can't you make it to the store? I think they even sell it at Walmart in the pet section.

| Thanks for all the great info guys. I know not to feed a cold pup milk as it will bloat them & kill them quick but sugar water is fine. I made it to the store & got puppy milk the pup is toasty warm with a full belly. THANKS ALL!!

| Oh, I'm so glad! Have you tried placing the pup back with mom? Will she accept the pup now? I know she may not, but if she's tired she might not notice right away. Hopefully she does, to cut down on many long days for you

| We used to breed German Shepherds and had a similar problem with a new mom. She had a puppy that was very small and not doing well. My son could not let nature take it course and had to help. He would take that tiny baby and stick her under his tshirt right in the center of his chest and hold her there for hours. He only took her out to hold her up to mom to eat. He did this for a couple of days and in time she grew stronger and was able to eat with the rest of the pups. We thought that maybe having her close to his heart like that helped and of course the warmth. I am happy to say that Tessa is still with us and only now at eleven years old is starting to slow down a bit. We sold the rest of the pups in that litter, but Tess had to stay, of course. Oh, my son was only thirteen when Tess was born, but seemed to know exactly what to do. Everyone told us it was futile, but he proved them all wrong. |
