I'm sorry that you both have to go through this:( BUT! Thank goodness that it was caught early so that he has a good chance of recovery. There are things you'll have to do in your house and yard to try and make sure that the Parvo is killed. Lots of info about it if you do a search. |

My dog beat parvo Just to give you hope. First let me say I had a dog die of Parvo when I was 14. So when my son's boston terrier suddenly got ill I knew.... I just knew. I rushed her to the hospital... and it was. She was throwing up blood (I had been at the zoo all day or I might have caught it a couple of hours earlier). She was a bone when she finally came home... and it cost me about 800 (which may seem cheap but in podunk arkansas it isn't)... but she lived and THRIVES today. Although she still battles to keep wieght on ( I have to feed her Premium Edge... the only food on the market that she doesn't waste away on....even though she eats the others). It was 3yrs ago... she had had all her shots... it was a freak deal. Caught early... you are good.... pray and your baby has a good chance. Parvo basically sucks all the fluid out of their body. Saving a dog from parvo isn't as much about fighting the disease which is relatively easy... but fighting the dehydration caused by the illness... the faster your baby was on an IV the better! I'm praying...good luck! Of course now every time my yorkie throws up I have a panic attack thinking it is Parvo... I have to beg the vet to test her... |

LunasMom, I am going to use diluted bleach to clean out his crate and play pen. Will do the same for food/water bowls and any bedding and toys. Will also spray the area of the yard that he uses for pottying, but spraying my whole yard isn't an option as we have 26 acres. If I get the main potty area though that should knock out most of it. I'm not sure what to do about the couches and carpet though. I can't put bleach on them without ruining the color. Any suggestions? Thanks again everyone, it really means a lot. |
I'm so sorry. My oldest dog Fi Fi had Parvo at the age of 4 months. She was in the hospital almost a week. It was a tough fight for her but she made it. She didn't weigh but 4 pounds at the time. I'll be praying for your baby. |
sorry about repeats computer hiccup |
sorry about repeats computer hiccup. Re: cleanup They can't get it again... and you can't get every area... Clean for other dogs and do the best you can... get the stuff your vet uses if he will let you... but it will still linger... that is why I said you need to make sure any pup you buy in the future is fully vaccinated before you bring it home. And re: vet not having parvo lately... they can't get everywhere either... and they don't treat outside their facility... at least most don't... so you probably did get it there... there is very little incubation period. |
meg, Max had normal poop and wasn't throwing up any blood so I was really sure he just had a bug of some sort. I just couldn't imagine he would of caught Parvo when he hasn't been anywhere. I'm really worried about how this will effect him long term. The vet said he's had most all dogs in his care survive Parvo but some have had problems for the rest of their lives. I really pray that Max doesn't have any lasting health issues. |
What a sweet face he has....I hope all goes well. I know it seems sad to think about him going through this (the strange cage, IVs) but all will be worth it in the end. Thinking of you:) |
I would bleach your floors and everything you can bleach. When you have a dog with parvo they say you shouldnt have any new dogs in your house for 6 months so its a real big deal |
I will clean to the best of my ability but we have no plans for another dog so I'm safe there. |
Sending prayers and warm wishes your way... |
