Need advice on travel next july Time to plan ahead. My other niece in FL is getting married 7/2. My lab can stay home outside and my son take care of, but NOT MIA! DD and I are likely going to take the train - no dogs allowed - (i'd try hiding her in our sleeper, but since it is a 2 day trip she would likely be discovered). Hubby and DS are going to fly down - probably wouldn't be thrilled if I asked them to bring Mia, but I might. Once in FL she could be at hotel w/ us and in a room or her crate at my sister's while we are at the wedding. We are also going to Universal, but the hotels there allow pets and have dog walkers so she would be fine. I hate to board her as she sleeps with us and I think it would be very traumatic. My other DS girlfriend would take her, but her folks have 3 poms. She might be able to come over (but can't drive due to seizures) , but only a couple hours a day. I'm thinking being in her playpen area for a week wouldn't be good for her. What do you all think???? I think DH bringing would be best. DS would be good with her I"m sure. Help!!! thanks!

I had the same dilemna. Me and my family are going skiing for 6 days after Christmas. I couldn't bring my furbabies, so, I am leaving them home. They will have their usual run of the house; however, I have a dog sitter coming 3 times a day to take them for a walk. Also, I have a teenage girl coming to play with them for an hour a day. On top of that, I have family and friends coming to visit whenever they can. This is the first time leaving them so it is somewhat traumatic for me; however, I am feeling comfortable knowing they will have a lot of company. I have tried traveling with them in the past, but, they get so nervous traveling. It is much less stressful for them (and for me) to stay home. Anyway, I hope you can figure something out. That is why I got a 2nd little dog, so that they would have each other for company. Karen

I always take my babies to Paws and Claws resort here in PA. I know it is hard to leave them at a kennel but I am very comfortable with the woman who ownes this kennel since my vet recommended her and uses her for boarding his pets. Perhaps ask friends or your vet and you can always take a tour of the facility. I do have two babies to keep each other company, I have left them there 3 times and they never come home sick or with anxiety. They are super glad to see mom! (doesn't hurt that the owners daughter loves yorkies) I gave her an extra tip and she hand fed my little one. They also have web cam available and a toll free number to call as much as I want. No matter what you decide, you will feel guilty, but try to have fun and look forward to the happy little one when you get back
