| I am happy to say that Kirby has showed some improvement, at least with his walking. He didn't fall over today when walking, and almost seemed a little happier than he has been. His right leg is the worst and his paw seems to drag when he walks. We can only let him walk when taking him out to go potty, as he is on very limited exercise. I do think his back is getting better. Our vet said that what happens is it smooths over in the area where the rupture is and then takes pressure off the spinal cord. I just can't wait till he will be able to move around and hopefully get some of his muscle back. He is such a little sweetheart! I love that little guy! Thanks for your prayers and well wishes for Kirby! Debi...yes...the winds have been horrid all day! My hubby's grandma got thrown to the ground by the wind and broke her wrist and is in the hospital. I feel so bad for her...she's such a dear lady. Gusts have been up to 60 mph. Lily of the Valley...thank you for your message and pm. We discussed surgery with our vet, who would have referred us to Mpls, but he told us that he has seen as many dogs recover from this without surgery as he has seen recover that do have the surgery. Kirby is my daughter's dog and she made the decision not to pursue the surgery because of the fact it is not a guarantee that it would work, and the cost of the surgery and travel expenses. I would be scared of him going through surgery in his weakened state!

Lovin' 2 Girls Donating Member | Hi Connie, I'm so sorry about Kirby's misfortune! But, so very glad there is a glimmer of hope! Has your daughter thought about IMOM to help w/vet bills? And, what did we decide about donating cothes? Is there a thread to post pix, and have the $$$ directly into your paypal, or do we still send things to you? Abigail sends *kisses*

I Love My Lil' Punkin's Donating Member | Connie I am so glad to read this update! It is so wonderful to hear the good news that there was no falling over when he walked - that is awesome!! GO KIRBY!!! It sounds like he may slowly but surely be getting better...this is just wonderful news I couldn't be happier for him! Please keep us posted and of course I will still continue to pray for him. Also that is just terrible about your hubby's grandma....that poor lady - and darn those nasty winds! She is in my prayers as well

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Great to hear he is feeling a little better, I'm SO happy to hear it! Have you tried having him lay on a heating pad? I wonder if that would be soothing. I'd also recommend having many things for him to chew on - bc when dogs are hurting, it can help them distract themselves if they can chew. Little massages would help ease some of his body's tensions too - bc he'll be physically compensating in all kinds of ways (holding his body differently), and this causes alot of tension/soreness in the REST of the body. Love you Kirbs!
