| what should i be doing differently?? *potty training* ok i admit it, i've been really responsible about having a puppy. this is my first and i wanted it for college since i'm living in an apartment by myself. i have changed a lot in the past 2 weeks -- i started taking him for walks and i stopped free feeding him. now i need tips on potty training... has anyone used another method other than crate training? oh and i'm going to take him to get neutered sometime in the next month... how did your puppy act differently after he got neutered? temper/potty?

| I think crate training is the way to go. Some of them seem to mellow out a little after they've been neutered.

| Wow! I bought my puppy for a college apartment companion too. How long are you gone at a time during the day? I'm gone for about an hour for each class and home for and hour in between them, so I'm home often enough to prevent accidents. I tried crate training, and it just simply wasn't for us. I could hardly stand him crying at night for me to come cuddle him. So I kept the crate, door always open and blockade him in my tiny kitchen with his crate, blanky, a couple toys, and Newspaper. The newspaper, or if you prefer, a pee pad, I use mostly over night, becase he can't hold it for that long yet. Another really important thing is your reaction to him peeing and pooping. If he goes outside be crazy lunatic happy, lol. Equally as important, when he has an accident inside, you need to show the body language of disappointment. If he learns that going where he is supposed to go makes you happy, and not makes you mad at him it theoretically should be quickly learned. Feel free to IM me on AIM. Invisablefyre. Hope this helps!! |
