| How long does it take for them to stop barking when they are left in the crate. I put Stewie in there at night and he barks for about 2 hours or more and then he wakes up in the middle of the night barking. How long before he gets used to the crate? Should I ignore him if I know he has just gone to the bathroom? |

| I have never really had this problem, but I'd ignore him...and let him cry himself to sleep. If you have him close enough to you that he can see you and feel your presence, I would think that would help. When we first got Winston, I put his crate right next to my side of the bed, if he started fussing at night I would just put my hand down near him so he'd know I was there...but I never picked him up...and his crying just stopped after the first few nights. He loved his crate and my hubby and I thought he was never going to want to sleep with us...but he finally did...and slept the entire night.

| when i first brought Roman home i crated him for the night. he would whine and bark alllllll night. i figured out that if i could put my hand through the bars he would fall asleep for a while. so i started sleeping on the couch and putting the crate on the coffee table so he would be close to me, but it didnt really help. every night i would put him in the crate but somehow he would get his way out . now he just sleeps with me. im not very patient though, so im sure if you keep trying he will get used to it. i always heard that putting a tshirt in the crate with your smell on it will help or an alarm clock that makes a slight tick tock noise but ive never tried either. good luck!

| You could try covering the crate to make it darker. |

| My boyfriend and I put a play pen in our room when we first got our little one and lined it with puppy pads in case she had an accident, her water, a toy, and a blanket. She could see us and she would whine a little at first and then she was fine. She would whine when she had to go in the middle of the night and we would take her out and let her go potty and then put her right back in. After a few nights she got the hang of it. I just liked the play pen more than a crate cause it was bigger and I didn't feel like she was so confined cause the top was open and she could see through the mesh. Just an idea.
