| Yelping Yorkie Hi everyone! I found this forum by accident. Thank goddness I did because it looks like a great place to talk about yorkies!! My little one year old yorkie Oliver likes to make this yelping/squealing kind of sound whenever someone leaves the house, he see's other dogs, kids, and people. It's really embarrassing because it's really loud and high pitched and everyone looks at you because it sounds like he is being killed or beaten. He doen't do it all the time, but when he does its crazy. Does anyone know why he does this? Could it have something to do with him not getting his own way? Please let me know if you have any suggestions on what I should do. Thanks so much!!! Oliver's Mommy |

Everyone tells me it is separation anxiety, but he only does it when one of us leaves. Boy, do I know how embarrassed you can get. My yorkie is also 1 year old. I have no answers but sympathy. | Well Gypsy Rose doesn't do it when someone leaves the house but I know the squeal you mean - she reserves it for when she plays ball and for when I feed the birds .. one day I am going to have someone from an animal organisation call to investigate LOL! She is nearly 2 now and still does this..!! My sympathy LOL! Ana xx |

| Here is something to try. Do this on the weekend so you will have time to do it. Get ready leave and walk out the door. Then walk back in. Praise your dog if she doesn't cry. If she cries, don't say anything. After a few more minutes do it again. Everytime she doesn't cry praise her(you can give treats if you want but make a big deal about how well she behaved when you were gone) . Do this as many times you can throughout the weekend and start leaving for a longer time. |

| Thanks for the quick replies! It's great to hear I'm not the only one who has experienced this embarrassing behaviour. I will also practise leaving and coming in again...wish me good luck! Thanks again for the kind replies! Oliver's Mommy |

| Hi! My little Zeus does this whenever he knows we are about to go for a walk. As soon as I put his harness on him, he starts making that sound because he is so excited. I just can't get my act together fast enough for him I guess!
