| Belly Band Good morning all, I'm new to the site, but I am fortunate to have stumbled onto it. Sometimes I think that I am alone, dealing with my Yorkie Willy. I have a question about belly bands. Have anyone ever used them? Have anyone ever used them to help housebreak a male Yorkies? What were your results? I would think it would defeat the purpose of training your Yorkies to pee outside. Can anyone give me any feedback on this issue? |

| Welcome to YT!! I have never used belly bands to help with housetraining, but i do use then occasionally with my boys when we go visiting, (just in case). I also babysit my friends male dog a lot and he starts marking as soon as he hits my door. He wears one the entire time he's here. Regular panytliners were not absorbant enough and irritated his belly and made his hair smell. I bought some Poise pads and they work much better.

| Belly bands are for keeping your house clean and smelling clean during the potty training process OR for males that are not neutered and mark. You should still potty train your dog as you normally would and still watch your dog so that you can correct him when he does pee in the house. |

| I got him from my sister when he was 6 months old. He was neutered when he was 8 months old. He is good about peeing and pooping outside. We are on a schedule but I still take outside every hour or so. With the use of belly bands, wouldn't you think that (in his little doggie mind) he would use that to pee anywhere he felt like it, when he is not in the band? He has accidents. He's fine. I'm confused. |

No Longer a Member | I've always wondered about this in case I ever get a male yorkie... Do you use those as the potty method, or do you still try to potty train as usual and use them as a back up source to protect furniture, walls, other vertical objects... |

| That's why you still need to watch him and correct him when he pees in the house with it on. Sounds like you need to go back to square one with him. He won't know that it's ok to pee in it unless you let him think that. He doesn't know it's a diaper. |

| romeo is unneutered. he's great at home, but marks at other people's homes. i use belly bands and they are wonderful. tiger's mom makes the best belly bands. they work and they are priced fairly. she's an excellent person to purchase from.

| No they are not a potty training method, they are only to be used to keep your furniture and carpet clean. YOu still need to watch them like a hawk and correct them. |

| I was told that you have to use some type of pad with the band. Do you have any clue what type of pads and where to ge them? |

| Use generic women's maxi pads. Don't buy the expensive doggie diaper pads as they are the same thing but cost more. |

| Great belly band !! I have the kind that has elastic around both sides. Bogey can't get it off & it works great. I use Walmart brand super pads.

| http://www.dogchatforum.com/belly_bands_dog.htm Excellent link and easy to make. I used 4" flannel, double fold, velcro on opposite ends. Measure around the belly, allow for lap over, Incontinence pads (Ultra) while I am at work. Successful solution for Charlie and will have him wear one when I am on our vacation at my daughter's house. Don't want him to mark because this will be new territory. PS Since he marked his territory when he came to live with me, I do not allow another male dog inside unless they are wearing a belly band.
