| Ohhh the barking a night must stop!! We keep Bella in her crate at night bc she is still not potty trained. Her crate is in the laundry room which is right outside our bedroom. She will usually whine between 2-3 in the morning bc she needs to go the bathroom. I will let her out and she goes. Well after an hour or so she will start barking NON STOP. I know you are supposed to ignore them when they bark, but I think my husband will kill me if I just let her bark for hours, which she WOULD do. I got up 5 times with her last night. 11, 2, 3, 4 and finally for good at 5. I go in there and tell her in a stern voice NOOOOO and glare at her. But as soon as I go get back in bed, she starts all over again.. What do I do?! |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | With Cali I had her in a playpen in my room, right next to the bed and sometimes early on she would wake around 2-3 in the morning and I would but her in her small carring crate and put her on the bed next to me and she would setle right down. WIth Pixie she was 13 months and not trained when I got her and she screamed when I put her in the playpen even though it was next to my bed. After 2 nights, I put her on my bed and she never had an accident on the bed, but she was older. I find if they can see/hear you they tend to settle down faster.

| I agree that you shouldn't go to her when she's barking. I know it seems like they'll just keep doing it forever, but you gotta be a tough mama. If you just don't go to them at the beginning, they do stop. If you keep going to her, she thinks that barking is what will get her mommy to come take care of her..and then, that's when she won't stop the barking. Also, when she whines to go to the bathroom or when it's the middle of the night and you want to take her to go potty...just go to her, don't pet her or make a big fuss, don't let her think it's playtime. Don't even really say anything to her. Just take her straight to her potty area, say a command if that's what you do (ie: "go potty"), then take her straight back to her pen and crate and go back to bed. Oh, and if this helps with getting more sleep instead of waking up every hour: maybe set an alarm every 2 hours or so so you can let her out to go potty on your own time. Gradually increase the time, and this will help her to learn how to hold it and also to not whine for you to come get her. I did all of this with Luigi when I first got him, and he barks sometimes but then stops after about 5 minutes or so cause i NEVER go to him when he does that. He needs to know that barking/whining isn't what will get me to go over there. And I'm glad that he's getting the picture and only barks for that long. If I kept going to him at the beginning whenever he cried, who knows how long he'd be barking now. Hope this helps! Just hang in there, you can do it! Good luck!

| You do need to be tough.......Put her in the basement where you cannot hear her. Do not give in and go to her cuz she will know that is a way out. Cuddles did this for about 2 months after I put her in the basement at night in her crate. We put her in the basement so we could not hear her......you need your sleep. She stopped and now she is quiet all night, now I keep her in the kitchen. Even if I have to get up in the middle of the night she is quiet. She will learn to hold her bladder..etc. She use to squeal when we left her during the day....but I just let her squeal and now she just lays down and does not do it no more.....They KNOW how to get out and get their way.... God Bless |

Not on the bed, but in the room with me. When I leave him dowstairs he barks and cries. but upstairs As long as he sees me there he's ok. he sleeps all night and doesn't bother us. And I agree that you will just have to let her cry and bark. She willget over it. Just like children. |

| Wow I never realized how lucky I was till I read the posts here. Eury bites but stops soon as you say ow! But what makes me lucky is that my baby actually sleeps through the night. She's been trained from day one that when it's dark and she's in her x-pen with her bed it's time to sleep. She's quiet all night until my hubby gets up to get ready for work. Then he spends time with her. What we've done to also encourage this behavior is we've made the x-pen at night very homey. She has her carrier/bed, her pee pad for when she can't hold it anymore, water, a little bit of food, chew toys and her favorite soft toys. So far the only night she's woken us up is right after we got her and she developed a mild case of bronchitis but fortunately after a week of meds she was fine. Good luck with the training, it's hard I know and takes patience... lots of patience. Chelle |

| You can also try using the Gentle Spray anti bark collar. It really helped stop my furbaby from barking the whole night. I bought mine from www.gentlespray.com |
