| Litter Box Training Okay, I'm trying litter box training. Our puppy is 10 weeks old and she is doing very well in the litter box. I got the newspaper pellet kind today and she is adapting to it. I had the clumping kind, but it left a mess whenever she jumped out of the box. Anyone else litter box training? |

| Anyone else using a litter box? I just want to follow up about litter box training. I had read about this on a website from a woman in NY City that found this especially useful there. I decided why not try it. Brandi is doing extremely well. At not quite 11 weeks, she knows where to go now and is actually running to the box when she needs to relieve herself. I would love to hear from anyone else that has had success with this. |

| I am trying to litter box train Sargie, but he won't stay in the box when I put him there. He wets on pads - any pads, newspaper, throw rug - anything he perceives as a certain rectangular size - leaves droppings near the pads. I can't get him in that box. I have put puppy pads in it, with the Training Spray on them - no luck. What are the secrets of your success? |

| How I am training We started with the puppy pads too. We have a dog play pen set up in the kitchen. It isn't very large (I keep it in a rectangular size). I put the litter box where I had the puppy pads, her little bed is at the other end with food and water in between. After she eats, or plays hard, I say let's go potty, I put her in it and she goes. I reward her with a tiny part of a treat. Now she is actually going and waits for her treat! We got her on May 18 and I am now keeping another litter box outside of her play pen area. She is actually going there on her own. I bought the clumping cat litter first, which is great. Once she eliminates, I scoop it up and get rid of it. I am also trying "Yesterday's News". This is a pellet type, it works too, but I don't like it as well. The clumping kind is really nice, but she does track a little of it onto the floor. Oh well, I don't mind vacumming if she doesn't do anything worse than that! Hope it helps. Rewarding her has made a huge difference. |

| When I got my Maltese, she was litter box trained but I didn't want to have another litter box to clean out. (besides the cats) So, she is learning to go outside and she using potty pads sometimes, too. The breeder told me that her vet said the pups won't take to litter box training unless they have it there from the time they can leave the whelping box. I guess I don't think that is true in all cases... like yours! |

| I've never litter box trained any of my dogs, but I think it's a great idea for people in apartments, etc. What made you decide to use this method??

| I have 3 that go in a litter box. It's great for times when your at work all day or the like. For Connor I simply put a box behind it and drape a puppy pad over the box and into the litter box. He stands in the litter box and sprays the paper. Only thing is my puppys love to play in the litter, it's like a personal sand box for them.

| My Tia is wee wee pad trained, but I use the litter box and just put the wee wee pad in it. I chose to keep the pad in the littler pan rather then on the floor as sometimes no matter how good the pad it, it will leak or she'll miss and it will end up on the floor. The pan prevents it. I'm also training my Jersey to go in the pan too. When they are small it's easier then lugging them out in the snow or rain. Tia came to me wee wee pad trained so I'm in the learning process now of how to train Jersey. She's being pretty stubborn. Will put her in the pan and use one word "Make" and keep repeating it over and over and she knows what it means because she does it when she feels like it, then other times will hop out and go pee. ARGH. Elaine. |

| We live in Wisconsin and with her being so small we figured that this would be easier when the snow flies. So far it is working very well. Only a few little mishaps, but she is well aware of where she is suppose to go. |
