Pad Training Help I have a 10-week-old puppy, Bella, and I am trying to pad train her. While I am at work, she has a pen she stays in that is just big enough for her pad on one side and her blanket and food on the other. When I get home, I take her out and play with her. I keep atleast two, if not three, pee pads out for her and I keep a very close eye on her. If I see that she needs to go, I put her on the pad. She has gotten to be a smarty pants though...she will run away from me when she needs to go because she knows I am going to move her. I have read through a lot of the threads on the site, and a lot of people say to keep them confined if you are not playing with them or holding them. Well, I want to know how that is possible! If I am at home, Bella does not want to be confined! If I put her in her pen or anywhere else where she would know I was there but was not able to be with me, she would cry like a mad woman. Should I just let her cry? I have tried, but it seems as if she wouldn't ever stop. I am just really frustrated because she was doing pretty well, but for the past couple of days, she won't go on the pads!

I would say just enjoy her and love her. She will get the hang of using the peepee pads herself. Remember 10 weeks old is just a baby!

I have a 16 month old Yorkie (Sasha) training her has been a nightmare and alot of time wasted going outside for NOTHING. I have tried the puppy pads but she will only pee on them never number 2 and thats only once a day. I read on here someone speaking of a spray you can spray on the pads, but I went to Petco yesterday and saw no such thing.Good luck to you if you find some amazing problem solver!

yeah I had that problem too at first. Just pull them away and tell them "NO" firmly and they'll eventually realize they are not supposed to eat them. I believe they also make pads with sticky stuff on the bottom so they can't run off with them!

I trained myself I had to be vigilent about taking the puppy to the pad periodically. I never had a problem with her running away from me, so it made it easier. Every 1 or 2 hours I would put her on the pad and tell her to "hurry up", and then when she went I would give her a treat and encourage her with praise. The point is YOU have to put the puppy on the Pad every hour or so. If you miss, then they will miss. We crated her at night with a pad, but in the day she was out and not crated. You have to be structure and repeatedive. Also always put them on the paper when they come out of the crate and before they go into the crate. Sometimes you'll put her on the pad and she won't go, but remember pyschology 100, you are trying to condition her. Once they go then you feed her like pavlov's dog and the bell. Instead of the bell/food it is pee/food. That is how I did it.
