| Please help with potty training an older dog We have a "precious "Yorkie named Scooter. He will be 2 in July 2007. Unfortunately he is not potty trained. We both work and it has been a battle. We keep him enclosed in the kitchen during the day. He will hold it for 9 hours. As soon as we get home he will go outside and pee only. Then as soon as he comes back in he will poop on the floor the second we turn our backs. Also, he will pee on the floor during the night sometimes. Other times he will wake me up. We are at our wits end. We love him and want to keep him, though. Any advice? Scooters mom |

| Well he's 1/2 way there. I would suggest to use a special treat when he goes outside. Try a tiny piece of liverwurst or boiled chicken. When he goes potty outdoors give him the little piece of either and praise him to no end. But only use this special treat for potty outdoors. He should catch on quick and know that he has to go outdoors to potty. This advice was given to me by a trainer. It worked for me. If he goes indoors immediately take him outdoors anyhow but no treat. He has to make the conncection between pooping indoors and pooping outdoors. He'll catch on I'm sure. Try and catch him as he squats and grab him and take him outdoors, treat praise. Good luck |
