| Bella will only pee outside... after she has come out of her crate. First thing in the morning, when I come home for lunch, and home from work at the end of the day. Any other time, forget about it. How can I fix this so she knows to go outside ALL the time? |

| How old is she? The way to get her to figure out that outside is the right place to pee is to take her out there very 30 minutes or so and wait until she goes and then praise her and give her a treat! She will learn that peeing outside is a very good thing. Then you need to tether her to you or crate her when you can't watch her, so that she can't run off and pee. She only gets to run around and play when she is empty. As she gets older she will learn to hold it outside of the crate too. Loki was crate trained long before he was house trained. He rings a bell when he wants to go out. Sammy doesn't understand the concept of the bell yet and is starting to just go to the door or she will bark at us and start dancing when she needs to go out. Accidents will happen. If you are constantly watching then you will see it happen, and you should try to say no and pick her up and take her immediately outside. This is why keeping a leash on helps. Then praise like crazy when she finishes outside. Also, you will get better at timing. I discovered that Sammy would pee on the floor when I was in the shower so now she always gets crated then. I also know that she NEEDS to poop first thing in the morning and then again about an hour after dinner and she doesn't think she needs to go and will try to come back in, so we stand outside sometimes for 20 minutes until she goes, but she ALWAYS does. Sometimes a little walk helps too. If I don't do that then I'm constantly worrying for the rest of the night that she will go on the floor or whatever. Now she is slowly starting to learn to go to the door!! One night she just refused to go so I fed her some pumpkin and held her on my lap for about 20 minutes and then we went back outside and she pooped! It's worth the hassle because once they are trained you don't have to worry about them! And just now she rang the bells! She's getting it.... slowly.
