Hate's Car Rides

Ferdinand used to hate driving in the car as well. I started giving him Bach's Rescue Remedy which helped a lot. Then, when he wasn't crying, I'd say "good boy!" and give him a treat. So he would get a couple treats per trip. I also have to have the windows cracked.

One problem was when I first got him, every car ride was to the vet, which is a scary place. I started taking short drives to some place he liked so he didn't associate the car with the vet.

It's a booster type car seat that sits higher up, so the dog can see out the window. Here is a link:

Some ppl might think I'm crazy but have you ever tried singing to them?You really don't need to have a brill voice b/c they love u anyway, but make sure you keep the windows closed.
Mine as soon as we go in the car they sit on my lap while hubby drives and they go straight to sleep.
If anything ealse fails a firm no or stop that might do the trick. Just make sure they don't get even more scared.LOL

My 2 babies are the only ones that just "love" my singing, lol. I can't carry a tune in a bucket, but the way they act, you'd think angels were singing! Great idea!

Our little girl loooooves riding in the car and I think it's because our first trips were all short ones to the pet store just about every day where she can get out of her carrier and see other dogs and visit with people and smell all the good food and treats. The trip is about 5 minutes and since we ended up at a place she absolutely loves to go, she is nutty about going in the car. The minute we start putting on our shoes and jackets, she starts jumping and racing around, races to her carrier and then back to us to signal us not to forget about taking her. Not even going to the vet once in a while has dampened her enthusiasm about going for rides.
