Is litter box training possible? I was just curious since we have cats and the litter boxes are already around-can you box train a Yorkie? I don't use clay litter- we use Feline Pine and our little boxes are very shallow. |
Mine uses a litter box. He prefers newspaper lining in the box. I bought one from Walmart that was actually for cats but it is big enough for him. He uses his box every time unless we are out for walks and he does it outside. |
We use a doggie litter box with a wee-wee pad inside. I wouldn't use the same box for both your Yorkies and cats though. |
We know someone that is a trainer that says he can litter box train dogs. |
My 2 didn't go for the litter box, they kept taking out the pellets to play with them or eat them as snacks.. :( |
thanks for the tips. Won't use the cat's litter boxes or the litter- I like the newspaper or pee pad ideas in the box. I just figured it would be a nicer presentation then a pee pad out on the floor. |
A friend of mine trained her Maltese mix to use a litter box and it worked beautifully except for the litter that would be a bit messy on the floor, but she kept the broom and dust pan handy. I'd say what ever works for you. I use wee-wee pads if it's pouring rain and when staying in motels. Taking a pan with litter with us doesn't sound too good to me. ;) I'd rather shake the poo in the pot and throw the pad away. :p |

I do not have any cats if that is what you meant. Its just the litter box I bought was made for cats but it worked for my boy. |

hehe:) sorry. Half of the time, I talk using Asian English :D |
We bought the Purina dog litter box for Wrigley. We use pee pee pads in it, not the pellets. She took to it right away and it's worked great! |
We had been using the purina litter boxes with pee pads in, but Tucker decided to start lifting his leg and now he can pee over the top, ugh. It seems like every time I find a solution to a problem, he finds a way to create a new problem. I now have deeper Steralite containers so he can't lift his leg high enough to pee out of it. I'm sure he'll come up with some way to out smart me on that solution, too  Good luck! Julie and Tucker :aimeeyork |

I've had my baby for about 3 months and as soon as I got her home I opted for the litter training. I bought a smaller box when she was tiny and moved on to a longer/wider box since then. I buy the Purina doggie litter and it works GREAT! I've tried the pee pads, and Bailey only rips them up, and does her business next to them  . She did try to eat the litter at first but with training and the word NO alot she got the idea. It's a potty.. not food. I change the litter every 2/3 days and there isn't any smell. When she poops I give her a treat, wipe her butt, and flush it right away. She won't go in the litter unless it's clean. So yes, I feel after 3 months of getting Bailey to go in the litter, she is a master! And thank god.. NO messes on the carpet! :D |
Ive been using the litter box for bandit, it works really well. I tried the pee pads and he just shreds them all day long. I use the Puppy Go Potty Litter. Its made of 100% recycled paper and its biodegradable so if they do happen to chew on it, it wont hurt them. www.puppygopotty.com |
