I used to have a beagle with a horrible pulling problem, and the gentle leader worked wonders! It works by controlling the snout through pressure and it doesn't cause pain or discomfort. I have only heard of a few people who didn't have success with it. Sometimes it can take a while for the dog to get used to it, but it's definitely worth it. I saw an elderly man who was getting pulled all over by his enormous English bulldog. He tried the gentle leader, and it solved the problem.

I tried it with Bentley, but everyone looked at me like I was being inhumane to my little dog by putting something around his snout and would ask me why he was wearing it. Premier brand makes a gentle leader harness that I use that is much better (and does not go around the snout). It is esentially a harness, but you hook the leash in the front (in the chest area), which makes it harder for them to pull because it turns their body if they do.

Gentle leaders, haltis etc are great but never use them on a puppy as the neck muscles haven't had time to develop properly.

I wouldn't use one on a tiny dog, their necks are too delicate and it can cause strain. I dated a guy who had a Dalmatian once and we got one for that dog and it was fantastic.

Gentle Leaders can work well, depending on the dog. For most dogs, they work wonders when walking, and the dog quickly learns not to pull. I used one for my old Basset Hound Charlie and it was a miracle worker. He heeled perfectly and never pulled on the leash, but there was one problem. Charlie seemed very depressed when he had the Gentle Leader on. He hated it and was always upset. I read in The Whole Dog Journal that sometimes these head collars can cause depression in some dogs.

Donating YT 7000 Club Member | its those head harnesses it goes around their nose and the back of their head. i don't have to use it on tucker but i used it on rusty and he's great on the leash now so we don't have to use it anymore.

Willy uses the Gentle Leader Willy only uses the Gentle Leader. Granted Willy is a big Yorkie at 13 lbs, but the vet recommended this as he was starting to show early signs for collapsing trachea. He has been using it for about 2 years, he definately doesn't love it, but he doesn't go out of the house without it. Everyone thinks we have this mean little dog, I am always explaining what it is. It basically works like a horses bridle. He can still eat, drink, bite, bark, etc... Desiree, mom to Willy, 13lbs of pure joy!!!
