My pup was abused physically & verbally by the breeder I got my pup Chewy on Friday, Saturday i took him to the vet & come to find out he has ear mites, a skin infection, & demodex (we're still waiting on his stole sample) When I first went to go pick him up from the airport he smelled like he hadn't been washed since he was born You can also tell he's been abused anytime you go to pet him he kneels down on his belly like he afraid your going to hit him, he's scared of feet & loud noises He doesn't know what it feels like to be held and hugged Today he is till under the weather but he has started giving kisses but he's still very reserved & scared. He'll just sit in the bed with me & watch T.V & cuddle :p I don't know what or how she was feeding him (he won't even eat out of the bowl, he eats off the floor) but he won't eat the Eukanuba puppy food (that's what she said she was feeding him) So I gave him some chicken breast & mixed it with rice & the puppy food what can I do to try to make things better? How can I get him to trust us? |
Poor little buddy. I'm sure you're doing everything right. It will probably take him sometime to see that he's not going to be hurt any longer. Thank goodness you took him out of that horrible situation. |
Poor baby. I am sure if you just smother him with love and give him some time he will be so happy and do a complete turn around. Bless his heart! Good luck! |
When I brought Coco home she was really scared too. She would shake all day and when we would pet her it would get worse. I know Coco wasn't abused though. I think all puppies are nervous when they get to their new homes because everything is new to them, but they get used to it. After 2 days Coco was jumping around like she's been here for years. She didn't eat out of her bowl either, and still doesn't. I have to hand feed her or leave her food on the floor for her to eat. She wouldn't eat the food her breeder was giving her either, but I think she was just nervous and getting used to everything because eventually she did. Make sure you're giving him nutrical if he isn't eating good. Good Luck and Congrats!. |
Just give him time I'm sure he will learn to love you as much as you love him already. Poor baby breaks my heart to hear something like that. |
I really want him to get better, I really hate seeing him like this I have to start his dips next week & i know it's going to take a lot out of him (my female pup who is his litter mate is also going through the same thing) How can I get him started on dog food? He will only eat chicken & nutrical Poor thing doesn't even know how to play with toys or walk up the stairs (he's already 5 1/2 months old) |
I'm from Jersey, too...so spill the beans. ;) Whose this breeder? |
Oh..:( poor puppy. Hope things will be better for him. When I brought mine home, he was a bit shy of human hands and you can't pet him straight on the head. He tend to duck away. It only lasted a week or two. Puppies tend to be a bit skittish but mine will eat out of a bowl and has a giant appetite even when he was new here. I did switch him (gradually) from day one what the breeder feed him (Kirkland) and what I wanted to feed him (Innova Puppy). |
I am sorry this is happening...all I can say is be patient and keep giving him lots of love and attention to let him know you aren't going to hurt him. I guess I am lucky.. the breeder that I bought Sadie and Lillie from spends alot of time with the puppies...her daughter (who helps with the dogs and breeding) and her grandaughter (who is 15) they hold and play with them all the time so buy the time they go to their forever homes they are already socialized...As for his food...Personally, I wouldn't feed him Eukanuba...that isn't a very good food...(there is a thread on here somewhere that tells you what to stay away from in food) try to stick with foods made from human grade products...I wouldn't feed him by hand either...you could be starting a very bad habit..JMO Good Luck! |
You need to find a good positive reinforcement trainer FAST and do some private one on one consultations. A behaviorist can evaluate Chewy and tell you honestly how much might be reversible with a lot of work and the sooner you get started the better. Who knows, if you do the right training (and by training, I really mean conditioning) you might turn him around quickly. If it makes you feel better, puppies wanting to eat off of the floor is normal. We went through 3 bowls before we found one Loki likes. I ended up using these big flat ceramic bowls and his food covers about 1/3 of the dish but thats how he likes it. Stainless was a no-go. He did VERY well with a plate, but I thought my friends and neighbors might not like to see my salad plates on the floor for the dog (HA!) but it sure works!! Can you find one of these brands? Innova California Natural Canidae Wellness Merrick Natural Balance Solid Gold ???? If you need help finding food or a trainer let me know! |
He will come around as soon as he knows & trust you just start holding and loving them both alot and talk to the vet see what he thinks...Good Luck, it may take time but they will know they are love very soon.....:) |
Awww you are doing a great job....just lots of love and attention for your little angel :D glad he is now with someone who loves him. Wish you and your little baby all the best :aimeeyork |
In all due respect the title on your thread is very a matter of fact, because your puppy is scared and submissive does not mean the breeder abused him this is a very strong accusation. He could simply have a reserved personality and scared from transition. I would bet your puppy is a bit traumatized from the flight as well acclimating to his new surroundings and mom. The mites and skin problem are unfortunate ask the breeder to pay for his meds. Also stating he smelled bad after you picked him up from the airport...more often than not puppies pee and poo in their crate during their flight, they have no choice .... I am not defending the breeder (I dont know where you got your pup) I just think your title is a rush to judgement. Assuming! best to you and your new baby! Quote:

demodex mange is genetic i believe and dogs that have that should not be bred! the owners of that puppys parents know that their dogs have it and bred anyway! poor dogs !!! i hope your little baby gets better it will just take some time to adjust and learn to trust people. |

Chewy has worms, demodex, skin infection because his demodex wasn't treated properly, & ear mites This puppy was abused There is no way a pup in good health & a pup that is being cared for would come to a person like this. There is no assumption here, it's a fact I'm reporting her to BBB & ACK today. with shipping & all i paid over 1000.00 for my pup . I'm going to spend another 1000.00 just to get him well |
Thats terrible that your pup had all those roblems and even worse that the breeder is a breeder on here. You should do a thread on this in breeder reviews so no one else purchases a dog from her |
[QUOTE=feminvstr]In all due respect the title on your thread is very a matter of fact, because your puppy is scared and submissive does not mean the breeder abused him this is a very strong accusation. He could simply have a reserved personality and scared from transition. I agree 100% with you . My little Jade was extremely well treated at the previous owner's home . She was a little shy when she arrived at my home . I gave her the time to adjust and now she is well adjusted . |
How sad that this puppy has all of these physical conditions. Give him time to adjust. I know that the question of possible abuse came up when I sold my last pup. Everyone that knows me knows that I spoil my babies to death...plus, he'd always been a little reserved. It took him about a week to adjust to his new environment and now has made the house his own and really came out of his shell. |
sorry I didnt see your original post... I didnt see the demodex, your breeder should pay for all your vet bills or give you a replacement puppy. Is you vet sure it is demodex? Some cases are caused by stress and malnourishment other are genetically immune depressed pups that inherited the immune deficiencies. |
I hope your little guy is o.k. I have a female that I kept out of my last litter due to a soft spot in her skull the vet said to sell her about 3 months old if she wasn't running in walls, She does not run into walls she is a heathy 5 month (she was at the vet last month for a check up) You can see her in my avatar her name is SunShine she does like anyboby BUT me if anyone trys to pet her she runs to me, No she hasn't had the health prombles yours has and I'm so sorry your little one is so sick. It take's time for these little one to it use to you. Best Wishes Oh she will let my husband pet her and she still has the soft spot. I have had ppl try to buy her and my answer is always the same NO she is not for sale. |
Iam not trying to find fault in your posting but merely pointing out that it appears you have a past with this breeder, you purchased your first yorkie from her months ago (female) and now another, Chewy...by now I would think you would have a good relationship with this breeder, is this not true? breeder This is what an ethcial breeder does with a shy or timid pup...you tell the potential buyer you have a sweet baby who is not as outgoing as some...needs more attention and love...You do not sell a pup without going into great detail about the temperment and general disposition. It has been a long time since I had a shy baby, but I have had a few and most come around with love and time...believe me there is a pet lover for every baby...so you take your time to find the right home..and be up front about everything. |
http://carteryorkies.com/AvailablePuppies.html from your breeders website site We love to get email! This letter is from Jasmine and Max's first litter. Candy reserved her girl before it was born. "Gia is such a cute dog, potty training has taken a big turn & she now is doing great with it. Everyone loves her to death, I mean I never knew I could love a dog this much. Gia right now weighs 1.8, well that was her weight last week. she's still small as ever though she seems to be getting a little taller. And she's so spunky but when we go out she is very shy & quite.. She's very attached to everyone especially me. Hopefully we'll be able to get one of her brothers but if someone scoops them up before I get to them, do you plan on breeding Max & Jasmine again? I would love one from the two of them again (they make beautiful pups)..Lucky Candy did get her boy, too. You can see Gia in her cute outfits on our pages. I was thinking about rescuing, but the truth is I love to see them grow. Gia changes every week, it's something different. She is completely blond on her little face & her little K9 teeth are visible now. The bond is very special when you raise a Yorkie puppy. They are so smart, they become a family member. Everywhere I go, people want to know where I got her from. I must have given out your web site a dozen times already. www.carteryorkies.com I will keep you posted with Gia's progress as she grows, she goes for her last set of puppy shots next week & shes going for her professional pictures next month (I'll send you one). Have a great day." Candy Thanks, Candy, you made my day! Ms. Lisa |
Candy it also appears your other yorkie (Gia) has demodex and you knew this before you got the second one from the same breeder... http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...t=55860&page=2 Oh my Gosh !!!! Gia has demodex mite the doctor was explaining it to me, but to be honest I really don't know what it is (i'm about to read up on it). I'm so hurt, I broke down in the vet office I had to leave her at the vet until 5pm today she has to get special baths & take antibiotics. She will have to go for those special baths every two weeks until it clears up. worst case scenario her hair is going to have to be shaved off . But as long as she's alight I don't care The vet said it was good I brought her in, I'm going to go there from now on I was suppose to be getting Gia's brother this Friday but the vet told me to hold off because he could end up with the same problem because they are from the same litter If anyone knows more about this demodex mite please let me know what to expect & what i should do |
to feminvstr okay you pointed it out, several times in fact. so let it go - find something else to occupy yourself with. |

Thank you for the facts :) |
I believe a puppy would smell after a long flight. Regarding his personality, perhaps he is a little shy and of course you must consider that you are a stranger to him and everything is new in your home. Regarding all your questions: why don't you talk directly to the breeder? A responsible breeder should have sent all the info (including name of the food he/she was feeding him). Just a thought.
