| Crate Training Hello- First of all I am new to the training board, I've visited a few of the others. I have had my puppy for almost a month now and he is about 10 weeks old. So, now on to my question. We've been crate training himand he hasn't pooped in his crate at all until yesterday morning and then again this morning. ::Sorry if this is TMI:: His poop wasn't as solid as normal so we were thinking maybe he had a little upset stomach and just couldn't hold it. If not then how do we stop this. He was doing so good at holding it and we have been getting him into a cycle where he seemed to poop around the same time everyday. I don't want him to think it's OK to poop in his crate. Please help! |

| If his Bm's are not normal, I would suspect something, and seeing as how very young he is, I would take a sample to the Vet. Don't wait. Their poops are a very good indicator of what's going on inside their bodies, and if he isn't acting normal (being able to hold it), and the poop has changed, then something may be going on. If it were me, I would get him to the vet to be on the safe side because these puppies are so small. Have you changed his food lately, or given him any snacks that may be upsetting his stomache? Is it possible he got into something? Seeing as how young he is and that you've already had him for a month, is he current on his shots? Or did he have a shot just recently, like in the last couple of days? Any of these things may be affecting him, so I would check into them and get him to the Vet asap.

| He loves to dig in the dirt. Do you think if he got into anything that might have caused this? I am trying to think what time we stopped feeding him the past two nights. If he ate later than normal then it would have passed later. I will keep an eye on him and see what happens. Could I just drop a sample off at the vet and ask for them to test it or do I need to ask them to test it for something specific. We had him to the vet on June 19th and he is UTD on all of his shots. He was dewormed on May 28th. |

| I would call the vet and tell them you are bringing in a sample you want tested, tell them his symptoms. You can drop it off, though, they can call you with the results. Chances are it will come up normal, but like I said, with these puppies being so small, little problems can get big in a very short time so it's better to be a little extra cautious. They will probably test for parasites? Digging in the dirt? Yeah, who knows what the little bugger could have gotten into, these little guys are always into something! Good luck, hope everything is okay!

| OK I just called the vet and described to her what happened. He started chewing on rawhides lately and she said to stop that for a few days and see if it helps. She said he might have a sensitivity to those. She also said that if he ate dirt he could have gotten something in his system that way. Also, we live in the NE and had terrible rain the past few days so she said the water could have had something in it. Thanks for all of your help! |
