| Not pooping Outside Heyy I haven't been on here in quite a while, nursing school takes up Lots of time...Anyways. I have a 1 yr old yorkie named skittles who im having trouble potty training. We are moving to a new apt. with White carpet and as you can see that can become a problem. I started her in obedience training at Petsmart and we are trying to get her to be potty trained by ringing a bell and going outside. I dont work and I am home with her mostly all the time. When I am not home I crate her. In her crate its her bed and then a little litter box with a wee pad in it. I have been taking her out like EVERY 30 min to go to the "potty" outside in which she goes pee, BUT no poop. She wont GO Poop outside. Im going Crazy. The second I bring her in she runs to a different room and then goes. I catch her in the act take her outside and Nope, no poo. She has held it for Hours and wont go poo outside.....SOMEONE please help me im going nuts. Thanks

| First, make sure that your "Nope, no poop" isn't too forceful when you are correcting her in the house. You don't want to teach her that it's scary to poop when you are around! This will sound gross but try taking some of her poop outside and leaving it there. When you take her out, lead her to it. Dogs often stimulate themselves to poop by smelling excrement. Also when you're outside, don't stare directly at her. It puts alot of pressure on her. Turn your body sideways, yawn, and just watch from the corner of your eye. When she does poop outside, it's PARTY TIME!!! Make a huge fuss over her - shower lots of praise and immediately give a delicious treat (like a bit of cheese or meat; not boring dog treats). I'd carry the treats out with me every time so that you are prepared to reward the second she finishes. Good luck!

| Thank you Thank you so much. I think that my problem today with catching her in the act was I scared her. I will not be so "shocked" I guess and just pick up the poop in the house and then take it and her outside and look away. It takes time, I just have to have patience. Thanks so much. Also....How long do you think it will take for her to catch on?

Can you use a babygate to keep her off the white carpet in the new apartment until she's more trustworthy?

| yes ohh yah, we will definately keep her on tile until she has fully grasped the concept of poop outside. She is doing great with peeing. She hasnt had an accident in the house with that for a couple of days BUT still same thing with poop. I did what you told me too about taking her poop outside and being nice when I caught her in the act and looking away and Once I picked her up and carried her outside, Nothing happened. She just looked at me like I was crazy. Ne more suggestions or just wait? PLEASE help.

| It's interesting but Edie got the idea of peeing outside long before she got the idea of pooping outside. A doggy door ended that problem, but I know that is not an option for everyone. Isn't it kind of cute that they dont like being stared out while trying to "perform"? I would feel the same way |
