| Shying away from people My 2 yr old yorkie Kiesha, has started to shy away from unknown men when they come into our house. She has always been outgoing and crazy with everyone but now she takes one look at whoever is comming in and if its a man she doesn't know she's gone and we don't see her again until she knows the coast is clear. She is not afraid of my husband or 22yr old son. I want to correct this problem before it developes further, perhaps with anyone she doesn't know. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

My thoughts are - get her out in the world more just to see not maybe to have everyone pet her. When new males come in get them to sit down as soon as possible and toss her a tasty treat. Most men tower over these little ones and it scary. Also do not let them approach her, bend over her or reach for her, that is rude in dog world. Get them low and let her come to them. Ignore it as much as possibable," no oh poor baby are you scaried. " Treat the guest as normal and her reaction is ignored, if you are comfortable try a yawn or turn your head sideways and blink. Even a fast lip lick could help. That is dog speak is calm down nothing to stress here. Joy | |
