potty trained at 11 and 13 weeks!!! We got Cricket when she was 8 weeks old. We started training her to go potty outside right away. Our vet said to let her out every 20 minutes to go and if in the kennel, every 4 hours. She didn't really mind her kennel. One good night of crying was about it. By the way I am a stay at home mom with no kids at home during the day. When we took her outside millions of times, we said Go Potty!, and when she did, we praised her. She loved it. When Cricket was 11 weeks, she was 99% trained. She would even go to the door and scratch. We thought this was amazing!! I had called the breeder to let him know. I asked if they still had her brother, and of course they said yes. We wanted both the first night. Well... we went and picked him up. Bubba was not potty trained for outside. He even peed his kennel for the first week. After constant letting them out, he caught on and was praised and he loved it too. He stopped wetting his kennel and has now caught up with sis. He barked and scratched at the door yesterday and ran out and did a poop! I was so proud of him. They are 2 totally different dogs, with different personalities. I think persistance works

| I am going to be getting a puppy in the near future and I work outside the home, so I will be leaving at around 7:30 in the morning and getting home about 5 every day of the week. Do you have any potty training suggestions? You seem to be very good at it. I would like her to only use the pee pads when I am not there, but when I am home to go outside. Ultimatly only peeing on the pads and pooping outside. Do you think this is doable or unrealistic? Thanks so much!

Because you will be gone so long during the day you need enough room for her to have a sleeping area, a play area and an area for the pee pad. She is too young to crate for that long during the day. If you can get her on a long weekend or when you are off work for several days to get her "started" that would be ideal. She will be harder to train because you cannot constantly supervise her, but she will learn. You cannot leave her outside when you are gone. She is too little and too young. I would suggest an indoor pen of some sort. If she is a tiny yorkie, a playpen works well, if she is bigger, a larger pen you can get at Petsmart or some other pet store. You might consider getting two puppies because yorkies will be very lonely being alone for that long everyday. Boredom causes more behavior problems. A second dog to keep her company is best. Good luck!

Excellent, congrats, I know how good a feeling it is when your kids are living up to you expectations. As a side note we followed the same methodolgy and Fozzy was the exact same way. He makes me so proud. He can find a door anywhere and let you know it's time. (Hotel, Timeshare, Condo, In-Laws, Friends, anywhere! And actually we started the weekend after we got Fozzy. Saturday / Sunday / Monday (took off), and by Tuesday he was doing good. The two weeks following were "come home on lunch breaks" but after that he was good for 8 + hrs in his crate. my $.02 Last edited by fozzybear; 03-17-2005 at 09:19 AM.

careful saying that, now you have to knock on wood....... yorkies can sometimes "regress" in their habits just when you think they are 100% trained

Wow That's great!!!OK I have been having nothing but bad luck with sami, I am at home all day and take him out all the time and he will pee & poo or visa versa and I give him a treat (lean treats) and I really make a big deal out of it and he gets all excited!! so if he had just peed he would be in the house maybe 6 min and I would find poo in the hallway or by the back door?? So I really don't get it?? We have had him since he was 7 weeks and faithfully this has been going on as I speak and he is now 12 weeks. I can't figure out what I am doing wrong here? What and how did you manage this? thanks
