| Fighting dogs :( Hi all. I really need some advice from you guys please. My girlfriends two yorkies Angel and Harvi have recently moved into our new house. Initially they were fine but now Harvi has become very jealous of Angel getting any attention from me at play time. So much so that he has started to attack her. I have been bitten once trying to separate them and my girlfriend is distraught. They used to live with my girlfriends mum so I am new on the scene with them. I'm not sure really what I have done to cause this but it seems that Harvi just wants me to himself. Harvi is 9 and has a very excitable nature but never ever been aggressive, whereas Angel is 10 and is reasonably chilled out all the time. Now however, Angel is very anxious and has started hiding on the chairs under the table. I really dont know what to do to stop this or even why it has started. If anyone can help we would be extremely grateful. If you need any more info just ask. Rob |

| I'm sorry, I've never had two yorkies at once, so I can't offer you any advice on how best to deal with fighting dogs. Hopefully someone with experience & knowledge will post soon. I just wanted to welcome you to YT! i'm glad you found us!

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | So these two dogs have a new home, and a new presence in the home. Things are different and that can be upsetting to the dogs. I would recommend separate play times for the two. I would also recommend you and your GF walk the two together on lead. Correct Harvi immediately if he starts to go for Angel.

| Thanks for the welcome and the advice 😊 we are both taking them for walks as they can be a handful on your own. A favourite of harvi'a is biting the lead and going abit crazy. Or even better biting Angels lead and they both go crazy. Fun and games at walkies time! Ha. I have been correcting him and will continue to do so. Hopefully it is just a case of them settling in. |

| Welcome to Yorkie Talk. Never put yourself between the dogs or try to physically pull them apart. If you are playing on the floor when this happens, try getting up and withdrawing your attention, even leaving the room. I often announce that I am leaving, "Okay, I'm leaving." If you are holding Angel in your lap while you are sitting on a chair or couch, put Angel on the floor and withdraw attention from both. I know it seems unfair to Angel, but withdrawing attention from both will usually stop all aggression. When my boys get out of hand wrestling, I raise my voice to call them to attention and then tell them to settle down. Keep up with the walks, and if they know basic tricks like sit, down, shake hands -- work on those with them together, rewarding them with treats. I use kibble rewards and the tricks for treats helped my boys form a bond with each other and me. It's a good distraction, constructive behavior, to break up the jealousy game. Only takes a minute or two of this to make them forget the jealousy. I agree with you, time settling in with you will help. Good luck!
