| Did you hire a trainer, take your yorkie to classes, or train yourself? Which have you found to be best? Thanks |

| I trained myself. Yorkies are intelligent dogs that were bred to work. I've always find them easy to train on the basics; pottying, sit, stay, down, come.

| Train myself. It's lots of fun for both of us.

| I took dog obedience classes with all my dogs but in reality classes were more for me than it was for them.

| For my first pup, Lexi, I went to a class since I was clueless on training dogs. When I got my second pup I just used the knowledge I already had to start training him. |

| Thank you all so much for responding. May I ask what method you used- out of a book, website, common sense, experience, etc? Thanks, and Moxie thanks you too (or she will, once she learns her manners!) |

| This is true. Many people don't know when they are reinforcing bad behavior. Training is first for the human to know how to interact with the dog. That said, I trained myself. I read a lot of books. But bc I'm a cheapskate.

♥Trained by my pups♥ Donating YT 500 Club Member | Main thing is consistency and positive rewards. It's so easy to get upset and mad. And I am not saying they need a treat for every good thing a nice pat or good job is reward enough at times . Pick words you want to use and use them every time. Some of my words my 3 know well are go outside, leave it and let's go along with many more. Make it fun and not stressful for you and your pup. And you will be surprised on the out come. Good luck and keep us posted. And of course reading books how others do it is always a great way to learn

| I did Petsmart puppy classes but after that I did it myself. Callie can pick up the basics of a trick in the first 5 to 10 minutes.

| I have trained all of my dogs to sit, shake hands and down. Those are easy. When I got yorkies I decided I wanted to take them to classes so they will learn to obey with the distraction of having other dogs around. They already knew sit, shake and down. I liked the classes a lot. They learned stay and leave it and sort of learned to heal. We are still working on that one. They are so smart and learned after only a couple of commands.
