Cleaning a mess on hardwood floors

I have also heard some say they use vinger and water on hard wood. To clean and get rid of pet ordors.

I use white vinegar and warm water to clean up the mess - it kills all of the odor so they won't go there again. I've read never to use a product with ammonia because the scent is similar to urine.

I have wood floors too and we use some sort of Armstrong Floor Cleaner...it has some ammonia to prevent streaking......

I did read something about this. There is supposed to be a chemical that is harmful to animals who walk on the floor and then lick thier paws. Maybe someone could call the company who makes it? I'm pretty sure I read this on the internet, so it may not be true, but if you use this product it would be worth a search. If anyone finds something please keep us posted!!

That is an urban legend, if you read post 15 someone posted some information about it.

I also have hardwood floors on the first floor of my home where I keep lex. I have to tell you I usually use a lightly damped mop to clean the floors regularly and it hasn't done a thing to harm it. I really ring out the water. I would suggest some Nature's Miracle (I get a gallon which last a long time for $12 in Kmart) to clean up the area that your dog has marked and maybe at then end of the day just a very lightly damped mop. If you don't get he urine stain out they still smell it and will keep going there. Hope that helps out. I do that with lex and the dogs I have had previously.

I didn't read all the replies...but my husband was in the flooring biz for years....he says vinegar and water 1/2 & 1/2 is great on wood floors but damp mop only...

We are considering linoleum or hardwood flooring for our Yorkie room. With the hardwood flooring, since they are in slats, does the pee go between the slats? Or is there something that keeps it from going between them? Hope I don't sound like a dummy!!
