Submissive/Excitement Peeing Hello! Our puppy is now 13 weeks, and she's been doing great and on her way to being potty trained! One issues I started noticing is that she started peeing when my husband got home from work. We get home the same time and she gets super excited to see us. She was fine before but since about 2 days ago, she started peeing when my husband got all excited to see her. We haven't changed how we greet her. I know that we get her all riled up in excitement when we get home, and I've read somewhere that that may be bad. Is this the issue? And why does she not pee with me but with him? Please help!

Toki did this a LOT when she was a puppy. Especially in public meeting new people....she would even sometimes roll onto her back and pee all over herself. She eventually outgrew it but still does it occasionally. When I get home, I kind of ignore the dogs and get myself settled in and put my stuff away. By this time, the pups have calmed down and I can greet them without all the excitement. Toki pees a little sometimes when my BF comes home but he really riles her up (I tell him not to!) and gets her so excited that she just does it. *Sigh* but for the most part, time has helped her to outgrow this behavior and trying to keep her as calm as possible during moments I know trigger it helps as well.

I also went through this. From what I read at the time it is normal puppy behaviour. I did get Wallee to stop it by telling everyone who entered my house to ignore him completely till they came in and sat down and he was settled. I also used to sometimes take him outside while hubby let guests in and would bring the pup back in after he peed and company was sitting. He still knows now that when we come in we only give him one very calm touch on the head then continue to walk past him and get settled before petting him and acknowledging that we missed him. This process has helped to keep him a little calmer when we come in and don't have to worry that we will step on him if our hands are full.
