I've heard that's a very good book! We got lucky with our old guy being pretty good when we got him. I better pick up that book before getting another, in a year or more... LOL The one is happy. I'd hate to mess that up at all.

Haha yeah it is a great book. They really break everything down ( I guess as the title suggests) for dummies! But I consider myself a dummy when it comes to this breed still. I've always been a dog person but never knew just how different toy breeds really are, compared to bigger breeds. They should really be different animals altogether! haha

LOL I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I said "ok" to Robyn's request. She just survived cancer and successful treatment, so, how could I tell her no.... but we really got lucky with attitude, no bad habits... mellow.. just bad teeth.... Reading stuff in here, let me know how lucky we really were.

Awww that's great! (the successful treatment and survival) yorkies are amazing companions. And there is a lot of good information on this site

Hi, I'm new here and haven't figured out how to start a thread yet, so I thought I'd look for advise here as it seems the closest to my query. I feel badly for this member's situation and wanting to avoid this type of issue when I bring my pup home. I'm planning on buying a yorkie from a reputed breeder in the very near future and was wondering if there's a way to determine the temperament of the puppy to suit my lifestyle? I live in a small condo and would require a quiet laidback type. What do I need to look for in the puppy or is this even possible? Thanks much.

First and most important find a reputable breeder which is easier said then done. A reputable breeder will not let the puppy leave when they are too young and will make sure the dog is properly socialized with it's litter mates. A responsible breeder will know the personalities of their puppies and help you choose one. That being said each dog will have it's own personality and terriers have a feisty personality. Buster has been a fairly laid back dog but he has his terrier times. Patience and positive training will help shape your puppies personality.

Welcome to YT. A good breeder will be able to help you to match a pup's temperament to one you are interested in. You might find this helpful.

Why is the puppy in a crate all the time? She wants to be near her person, since she was taken away from her mom 3-4 weeks sooner than she should have been.
The only time my dogs were crated was at night, and they now sleep in their crates with the door open. I trained them to "go night night" and now all I have to say is to night night and they all 3 go to their crates to go to sleep.

I would scream and cry too if I were locked up.

Yeah my feeling pretty much mirror yours. I dont understand people who get dogs and then leave them crated up all the time. why the heck did you even get a dog. get a guinea pig if you want the animal to live in a cage. but thats my personal opinion.
