| ![]() Hello, Hope I am posting this in the right section. I have a 16 week old yorkshire terrier and she is proving very hard to stop from barking at anybody within a mile radius of us either when she is out on her lead to pee or out on a walk. I don't want her getting in to that bad habit and was wondering if anyone had any advice as to how to get the stubborn mare to stop? Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks, Lorna ![]() |

| ![]() Hi and Welcome to YT! It's recommended not to walk puppies until all their puppy vaccines are done. Just a quick out-to-potty break and back in. Could be a fear response... or too much stimulation for too young a pup... IDK!

| ![]() Hi, thanks for the reply ![]() She has all her injections, microchipped and is well able to walk with the advice from my reliable vet. It's just annoying as she is very good with people and once she gets over seeing dogs, she gets on well with most.. I don't know, I just don;t want to get her into any bad habits as at her age would be the time they try and push to see what they get away with :/ |

| ![]() Welcome ![]() What I did with my boy when we are walking is praise him a bunch when he's walking good and not getting excited or barking, so now he knows what I expect him to do. When we walk by a barking dog he'll actually turn his head and then I praise him. So maybe whenever your girl stops barking praise her and give her treats when she's quite ![]() |

| ![]() Strudel does this everytime we go out too. He is not aggressive and doesn't seem scared, its almost like he is just saying HEY YOU! HEY! HEY! HEY! He is so good at everything else, 1000% potty trained, can sit, stay ect. basic stuff. I think I am going to take him to training class as someone else suggested. There is a sticky here for excessive barking, maybe try some of those tips too?

| ![]() Hey all Thanks for all the kind words and suggestions. I think I will enrol her in obedience classes. She isn't aggressive either, she seems to be very like what you have described @Givemecouture she just wants to let people know she's there.. She is exactly 4 months today so I cannot really complain with such an angel face ![]() |

| ![]() My problem isn't walking, it is in the car. Huey used to be quiet as a lamb, then one day a person in a drive thru window spoke to him and he realized that there were real people there. I don't know what he thought before, maybe that it was like the tv? Anyway, ever since then he barks like mad at drive thrus and bank drive thrus. He has also realized that other cars also contain people...same thing...he was fine until one day a person in a car waved at him. I don't know how to make him stop, inside stores he is an angel, than goodness, or I would never take him anywhere.
