Learning bad habbits? Hello, first post here!
I have a 2 and half year old yorkie girl named Ella. She loves to bark at any noise in the house that isn't me or my sister. She used to be a little scardy cat but turned into a proper watch dog these days!
She is never around other animals except two dogs that live across from us. One has bad aggressive issues and whines, barks, growls uncontrollably whenever we pass by. My dog decided to start barking and growling back after a while. But only as a game it seems because she isn't actually mad. She stops as soon as we pass by and walks on unfazed. The second dog barks when she sees us and my dog either ignores her or barks back a little and thats it.
But today my neighbor had a little morkie playing outside and it wobbled over to us friendly. My dog didnt see it at first and when she did she jumped back a little then slowly walked to it and they touched noses. Completely friendly like I'd imagine. But as soon as i started pulling her away she started to bark at it and whined for a second then growled and barks until it ran off and I pulled her to the porch. Then she was fine like nothing happened. I don't know what to make of this. Was she being aggressive? Did she just bark because she thought that's what she should do? In my heart I don't think she would ever be aggressive towards other dogs but I can't say she's friendly if she starts to bark...
Secondly, one day about a year ago I was in my room and my mom came in. My dog knew I was annoyed with her so she started to growl at my mom. Since then she growls and barks as loud as she can whenever my mom comes home from work or walks past my room. She barks whenever anyone besides my sister and I come home but she is way more loud when it's my mom. She has never tried to bite my mom. And if my mom calls her name she runs to her happily to see what she wants. My mom never really petted her or held her until a few months ago which made my dog feel comfortable around her but she seems to enjoy barking at her too much to stop even when she knows she's not a threat. lol Is this normal? I just wanted some opinions on why she's doing it. Just to feel like she has a purpose maybe? She's literally all talk and no bite. She's never bit anyone except the playful biting. The only time she truly tried to get aggressive was when she raided the garbage and found something she didn't want taken from her. Also, no one is bothered by her barking not even my mom. So it doesn't have to be fixed as long as she doesn't try to hurt anyone right? Any suggestions or comments is appreciated. Thanks! |
