Cesar Millan "Showdown" with Holly This is so sad and such a WRONG way to deal with a resource guarder. I've lost almost any respect I had left for him. |
The dog was giving warnings and clear signals left and right... he kept creating more tension, completely ignoring her signals until the only thing she could resort to was biting. This is a dog that, to me, actually has great self control. She could have hurt him a LOT worse... she gave her warnings, told him to back away... the dog felt threatened and corned and had no other choice. Cesar: "didn't see that one coming...". Yeah. Understatement of the year. A great analysis of the video: http://canineaggression.blogspot.com...s-trainer.html |
I read his book because it was so highly recommended. All I heard in my head was som "MANS" being the alpha stuff. Dont care for his technique at all. |
I didn't watch the video as the dog looks familiar and I just read jadabug's thread about a skin she found and am creeped but Isn't this the episode that was on a couple weeks back where that dog bites the heck out of him????? If so, I don't blame that dog one tiny iota! He begged for that poor scared dog to bite him! And then, he took it, didn't he??? If that is the episode I'm thinking about called "Cesar's Worst Bite" or something like that, he takes the dog from the couple for his own to his ranch or whatever and the show ended. So that dog will be getting more of that treatment as he "rehabs" it! I hadn't seen a show of his in forever(for reasons just like this) and I saw that title and had to see what he did to get bit, figuring I knew ahead of time and sure enough, it was a case of jabbing it, pushing it to its limits, bullying it until it snapped. And then he said it was too vicious to stay around the couple's toddler, if it's the one I'm thinking about, and he took it a month or so later. Poor dog. I hope one of his gentler handlers works with it or it goes to another trainer, rescue org. |
I don't care for his techniques at all JMO. How do you give her the food then say good girl and try to take it away:confused: I don't know what exactly he is trying to teach her. :thumbdown I agree with Jeanie seems like he is being a bully to the poor girl:( |
Why would he challenge that poor dog like that??? I agree that she could have hurt him much worse. I haven't watched his show in quite a while but I have never seen him challenge a dog so aggressively before. He was just asking for what happened. It is not a Lab's nature to go after a person to that extent. You could tell she didn't want to do it. I think he was embarrassed about it and that is why he stopped the session. His fame must have gone to his head. |
I saw this video and an article about this session. I feel the same as you Brit. |

:thumbdown I dont like him at all.. never really did. I feel bad for the dog, |
i had a female yellow lab who passed away at the age of 13 and she never acted that way. Of course she was trained from day 1 as all my dogs are// never has any of my dogs had food aggression like that. i feel sorry for the dog/ it isnt her fault that she was not trained and why was he not using a rubber arm that I see on alot of the shows on animal planet |
I saw this video recently and it made me lose all respect for Cesar. This was showboating, not training or correcting. This would have made a much better PSA on how NOT to behave around a dog. :thumbdown |

yes sadly there were a few of his techniques i use like stopping when walking. but sadly he has proven to be not so great in the things i have read and seen here plus reviews online. i have lost respect also. |
I lost respect for him over the years. I dislike many of his techniques like kicking the dog and I have seen him pinch the carotid artery. Of course a dog would submit when your doing that. He has a poor reputation with trainers who use positive reinforcement training. Of course the dog was going to react he disregarded the cues and cornered her. I hope she was not punished by him for biting him when the camera's were off and she was at his compound. |
I have read all of your comments. I was a faithful watcher for several years but when he moved to a different channel I lost interest. I have always been afraid of food aggressive dogs. When that lab first growled and showed it's teeth I really tensed up. For the rest of the video I was very stressed and tense. I saw him kick the dog when she bite and clung on to his hand - what else could he do to release the bite? I would have kicked too but then I wouldn't be in that dog's face. They have a child in the house with that dog - the dog would have to go. |
