| Marking through whole house. I have a 3 year old yorkie. I live with my boyfriend and his family in a decent sized house and we've lived here for about 2 years. Recently I went away for a week to visit family with my dog and while we were gone my boyfriend's sister who is 15 adopted an 8 week old morkie. My dog doesn't like the new puppy, if the puppy comes near him he jumps on the couch so it can't be close to him. I understood being upset about a new puppy but it keeps getting worse. They have only had Bear (morkie) for about 2 weeks and my dog is starting to act horrible. They sleep in different rooms in the house and for the most part only interact a few times during the day to not upset Rusty(my dog). Now they seem to be dueling. My sisterinlaw likes to go out with her friends so the dog either stays in the crate barking for hours or I take it out and let them run around in common area. As they run around they each pee on everything. My dog is trained on puppy pads and has been fully potty trained for 2 years but now it seems he is acting out. He pees on the floor, on the doorways, on the bottom on the dining room table and chairs, and even on the laundry basket. Hes got horrible behavior now and poops where ever he feels necessary and barks way too much. I'm exhausted from trying to stop this. He seems mad at me and won't come near me if i was holding or petting the puppy. I don't know what to do. Everyone in the house keeps saying let it run it's course but I'm getting sick of training a puppy I didn't want while cleaning up after 2 dogs and having my baby hate me. Please help. Any suggestions will help!!! |

| Sounds like a disaster. I would suggest belly bands!! I would also try and figure out a way for the 2 to interact in a positive way. I hope it gets better for all of you! Good luck!

| Rusty is neutered. He was neutered young before I got him. He doesn't bite nor has he ever. He's always been a very good dog so when the puppy bites him or humps him or attacks him Rusty just runs away and goes somewhere the puppy can't get him. He won't bite the puppy back or attack him or defend himself he just hides. |

| My Yorkie was doing really good at potty training (at least hitting the pee pads when he went), but after neutering, he had a relapse. We're working on it, but in the meantime, I use a belly band - it takes the stress out of watching him every second! |

| Dogs are pack animals, so the key is to get your Yorkie to accept the puppy as his packmate. It's going to take LOTS of play time, LOTS of walks together, and TIME. As for the accidents in the house... yikes! You might have to go right back to square 1 and re-train. One of the dangers of the puppy pads is that they teach a dog that it's okay to pee in the house. Try to get your baby to go potty outside. Go for extra long walks. Get him to the point where he's lifting his leg to pee and nothing is left. THEN he can be trusted to run around the house loose. The rest of the time, keep a watchful eye. NEVER take your eyes off him. I'm willing to bet that as time passes the 2 dogs will bond and you'll see a lot of the acting out will stop. GOOD LUCK!!!! |

| I use potty pads and they work fine for my two. They dont pee other places in the home either. I am not home all day so the outside option was not for me. I do take them out as soon as I walk in door and they normally pee and poo when we go out. You may have to start back training on the potty pad, it should not take long. But will prolly have to be something you stay on him and watch closely. |

| Are you taking the new puppy and Rusty out to potty before letting them run in the common area? Jmo, furbabies should not have free run if they aren't potty trained. Sounds like a dominance issue... Rusty is covering new puppy scent. I recommend getting an enzyme/bacterial urine remover (I use Kids-n-Pets or Simple Solution both available at Walmart). Immediately dab up urine and treat area with urine remover (spray where they've pooped too). Also, if new puppy is being crated for extended periods of time, an x-pen would be a better option (he could have bedding, food and water, potty pad, and toys available to him. Hope this helps... I only have girls, but it sounds like new puppy needs attention, playtime, and training

| Sounds like a pissing war going on for top dog! I had a rescue a few months ago and from the second he came in the door with me, it was on! Both of my males totally broke potty training and all day long the 3 of them peed and peed from one end of the house to the other. Grrrrr the rescue was neutered, as are mine, so not sure that's going to be the answer to "That Problem". Of course neutering is always a good thing anyway. Sounds like what the other poster said...some training needs to be in forced. I know what you're going through. Sure hope you find a solution...FAST!!!
