| potty training an older pup I just adopted 8 month old marley from a puppy mill rescue @ the human society. She is the most affectionate loving girl in the world, however was never potty trained. She is doing the whole go outside and whine thing, then coming back in to immediately potty. Sometimes she makes it outside, but thats just pee. She refuses to poop outside. I love her dearly already, but I don't honestly know what to do. I have a 4 month old yorkie who is doing fine with potty training, but Marley is like a lost sheep. |

| I have a suggestion! I know this sounds crazy but that's exactly what my dog Duchess did. She was my puppy's mother and was a rescued dog. She was in such bad shape that she stayed in the animal hospital for a week, and had major surgery on one of her eyes! The lady that we got her from said she was potty trained, when we finally got her home she did fine. The second week she would run around and around the yard, come back inside and potty. I already had my baby Zoe trained to use a dog litter box since she was 4 weeks old, so I started training Duchess. She learned in about 3 weeks, but she's a Pug, I think it would take your Yorkie about 2 months to learn and go without any accidents. I really think this will work for you. |

| Have you tried taking her out on leash only and taking her to the same spot each time? Don't let her run around the yard, but keep her in a "potty area" and wait until she goes. Praise her like crazy. Show her how happy and proud of her you are and tell her each time that good girls get cheese and give her a little bite of cheese when you go back in the house and tell her again what a good girl she is. Do I sound like a nut yet?

I totally agree and that has worked for me on some of my rescue's. I also praise them in a very high baby talk giggle kind of way and get them all excited for doing such a good job.

| Oh, yes! Even though Kacee is trained now, I still do it. It's still funny, too. I get excited and jump up and down and then she comes over to me and starts jumping up and down with me. She's so proud of herself!

| liter box? welcome your pup is soooo pretty i got my pepperann also at 8 months (now 17months) from a lady who kept her in a bathroom and never let her outside because she lived way to close to the Highway... so yes i would let mine out and she would pee but then come in and poop... arghh... she is doing better i try not to change her diet and try to keep her on a schedule... but now that she had puppies on the 17 of nov. and it is getting cold and rainy and just darn right yucky outside I am really considering the Doggie liter box. they have on at petco and it is plenty big. i even thought of a catlitter box with the doggie pellets they sell. but i have never done it and need to find people on here that have to say the ins and outs about it..... hmmmm

| I agree with YorkieUSA and LivingDustMops! Praise heavily (the sillier the better) and give treats for getting it right. When she figures out that going pee outside makes you so happy, I'm betting she'll soon try pooping outside to see if that works, too. When she does it, JACK POT: even more praise than usual and extra treats! Ignore mistakes unless you catch her in the act - then just say "no" and whisk her outside. Congrats on your new addition! |

| Don't give up, she will get the hang of it. I too agree with lots of praise. I'm a nut too, I jump up and down every day and say yay she went outside.
