1.5 year old Barking constantly Please help me! My Simon is 1.5 years old and has started barking constantly inside my apartment at every little noise. He barked all night and all day today. I tried using a water bottle to squirt him but he just licked the water and barked at me (amusing and cute but not tolerable). He has always been a bit af a guard dog but lately it is constant. Any ideas?

| When Simon is barking maybe you can distract him with a loud noise of your own. Once he stops the barking give him praise and offer a small treat maybe? Maybe too you can began to anticipate when Simon will start to bark, distract him and do the praise and treat thingy too.... Is Simon getting anough exersize through the day? Maybe he just has stirred up energy he is trying to release. Also, I've heard that a special toy just for night time (sleep time) helps to relax them while being in their crate, etc. Good luck.

for barking with my other dogs i have always found that a "clicker" works well. i know that i read on here that people have used them for praise, but i use them for discipline. my bailey has always hated it & stopped right away. i've heard of people shaking a can of change too, but i'd imagine for that may be too much of a loud disturbing noise.

I think he's bored Thank you for the replies. I've tried throwing his favorite ball when he starts barking and the clicker ;( I honestly now think he is just bored. I took him for a walk yesterday, about a mile, and we played ball a lot so he's getting enough excercise. Maybe he is just too smart and needs a new game to play to keep him occupied, any ideas? Thanks so much, you are all so helpful

Every moment is Training! Beleive it or not it's how you react to your dog's behavior every moment is actual Training, even how you respond to a certain behavior? You may be encouraging him to bark sending him mixed signals. I remember with my male that if I got excited by something he did that I did not want him to do, the more he did it! So I actually did they opposite I ignored it. I figured out that when I got excited he mistook it for a form of praising. So when he got no response he stopped. Barking is just a form of speech for them, when he is in his guard dog mode, I do praise him. So he understands when he should bark and when he should not. He also has different forms/times he barks. I'm thankful he cannot talk, he would probably talk too much Good Luck! It's tricky, this breed is too smart and yes they have to be entertained, exercised and kept busy all the time! Different things work, keep trying.
