YorkieTalk Newbie! | Biting problem We have a beautiful 4 month old Yorkie and lately she finds it fun while we are playing to nip and bite. We have scolded her, and ignored her but she keeps doing it. Her little teeth are sharp and they have come close to breaking the skin. Is there any suggestions or help you might be able to give. Thank you |

| After she nips and bites you need to give a firm NO and walk away for a few munutes. Come back and try again. Keep doing this and she will get the idea. Give her a treat when she does play nice. Hope this helps By the way, WELCOME to Yorkie Talk!!! |

| Welcome to the club... Quila likes to bite while playing too. The ignoring thing does seem to help though. |

| I yell "OUCH" really loud and pull away gently. Either that or give him something else to bite on. Ruger likes to go after my toes when I get out of bed. "Leave it" will often work, too. Leave it is a great command that should be in your dog's vocabulary. |

| Actually I tried the suggestion of yelling when she bites.... I yelp like a puppy and it really gets her attention and she seems to stop. We will continue to try this.... I think it is going to work. Thanks |

| Give a firm "no" then stand up and turn your back to her for a minute or two. Don't peak at her or talk to her. Don't do anything but keep your back to her. Be very consistent. Also give praise when she plays without biting. I did this with Gracie and stopped the biting within a week or two.

Yorkie Talker | We also, have a 12 wk. old, male. Biting and nipping. Acts like a "wild dog". He used to be so cuddly. Now when he's playing he acts like a lunatic and bites terribly. Those teeth are dang sharp. He seems to notice us ignoring him, but it doesn't last long. If you walk across the floor he attacks your feet or your pants. If you try to hold him he bites your hands or your stomach, Whatever he can get to. Does anyone have any suggestions. |

| I may be wrong in my methods, but it seems to be working .. I also have 3 children aged 6/8/10 who have in turn used the methods ... I have 3 methods to suit the age groups of the children and Stanley seems to sense we are different. Me, as the leader of the pack .. I say a firm Stanley NO, cross my arms and turn my head .. I repeat it again if needed, after 3 days he when I looked back at him after a min and still no words from me he put his head to one side .. I then walk away .. when he follows me, I turn, say Stanley SIT, and then I give him a good rub on his back. The children .. the 10 yr old says No firmly, crosses his arms and not looking walks away. The 8 yr old says No and walks away .. he usually follows her, so en route she picks up a toy and diverts him and gives him that. The 6 yr old is a little wary at the moment and if she is sitting down on the sofa or chair says NO and raises her feet and turns her head .. if she is walking she has been told to walk towards me and I talk her through it so she knows I am there and it makes her less wary. All 3 children have helped with COME and SIT and rewarded Stanley with a tiny treat so that he is learning commands from us all. Although he knows when I use a deeper slower voice he is in trouble and does one of those ha hum looks and turns his head before he peeks to see if I look happier. This may not be to everyones method but with children in the house there are too many fingers and toes .. the children if sat on the floor always divert with a toy if he goes to nibble their fingers. Hope it helps someone out there as it is working for us here. |

| When nothing worked with Callie we would say no and squirt her with the water bottle and that worked. Also make sure she has lots of things to chew on.
