| brushing ATTACK Alright this is my first yorkie and we have had her for several months we got her when she was 2months old . We have always had this problem. We spray her to wet her coat and go to brush her and she goes into a crazed attack the brush mode. She has never bit me and always gets the brush but she gets so crazed by half way through it I just let her go because I'm getting no where ! Any ideas to help my crazed pup she need brushed !

| Just a suggestion, but could you possibly keep her hair short so it's easier to brush (not sure how long it is now)? Also, welcome to YorkieTalk!

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | This may be oversimplifying it, but I wonder if you could try to condition her to the brush by using treats. Go a couple days without brushing her, but work 2-3 times a day in short, 10-minute sessions getting her to tolerate the brush. Hold it as close to her as she'll tolerate and reward with a treat and a "good girl!" The next session, hold it a little closer and reward a calm attitude. Try to build to the point where you can put it on her back and give her one stroke of the brush, treating as you do it. Then build off that. Two strokes. Three ... If at any time she attacks, back off with how close the brush is and end the session with a success. Also, I wonder if a different type of brush would help in the interim. Plastic as opposed to wood, or vice-versa depending on what you're using. You might even try something that looks like a brush but doesn't pull her hair. Good luck! Let us know if you come up with something that works.

| I found my now older Shih Tzu tolerated a metal comb. They detested any brush.

| Thanks ! Thank you All so much! We will be trying the treat and small brushing sessions! She went to her first grooming since I got her today and I warned the lady about her aggression and the groomer said she was viscous towards the brush. She does not react this way towards anything else. I use to have a Newfoundland so I know how to maintain locks but my dear little truffles is a challenge. Ill definitely keep working with her ! Thank you so much !

| When Sissy and Brodo tried to bite the brush, I stopped brushing and gave it to them to play with. I thought maybe they were just curious about what it was. The played around with it a few times during the day, Sissy even rubbed her face against the bristols, but then it went into the not such a fun toy box. Now when I brush them they turn around and smell it and allow themselves to be brushed. |
