Yorkie attacks other dogs on their way to the yard... HELP! My Yorkie Delilah I have had since she was 4 months old. She is a normal size about 8lb's so not super small, and she has some weird quirky behaviors that are just a part of who she is. She is extremely spoiled and when she was younger she use to go to work with me every day, so we dealt with a little separation anxiety, but she's pretty ok now, follows me every where when I am home, but that's ok. She's overall kinda grumpy, walks around growling a lot, trying to get her to knock it off, but nothing training wise seems to be working.
Either way the issue I am writing to you about is that when all my dogs go outside (there are 3 others 2 Yorkie-poo's and a labradoodle) she has been barking and attacking the other dog's ankle's on their way from the porch to the yard. It's so intense that if I don't hold her and let all the other dogs go out first most won't go outside unless I go with them b/c they don't want her to attack them. When this happens and I do go outside she doesn't stop when I tell her to, which is odd b/c usually if I tell her no or to stop she will just walk away growling, however she just keeps doing it in this case. She only does this on the way outside, once they are in the yard she doesn't do it, and she doesn't do it when they come back inside. She doesn't actually puncture the skin, so I am not sure what she's doing, or why.
Delilah has dominant characteristics, however my oldest dog Penelope Uma a Yorkie-poo is the dominant dog, and this hasn't been an issue until the past year. Now they have fights every now and then, but stop when I break them up. I am wondering if this behavior is some how her trying to be dominant. It's getting absurd in regards to Delilah trying to get outside first, I mean she throws herself into the door to get out, and with her luxating patella I worry she's going to seriously injure herself!
Does anyone know what she's doing, why she's doing it or what I can do to get her to knock it off??
THANKS!!! |
