Why is it acceptable to let adult Yorkies potty in the house?

There's more to my story and it's a sad one. Not only am I embarrassed to share the entire thing, but it's still very painful for me. I tried to re-home Nini because of my 'issues' soon after I adopted her I thought I wouldn't be able to handle it and I didn't want her to fear me or suffer in any way because of my shortcomings.

I'm glad the person you mentioned re-homed the baby, it was better that way. I was able to see the light, thank God, unfortunately, not many people do and the innocent babies are "just dogs" for them.

Now my house is a mess and I don't care, it's my babies's home and they're happy here---that's what matters. The carpet I can replace, Nini and Nicky, I can't replace them

I agree, I use to be angry when someone wanted to rehome a dog, but now I realize that's the best decision in many cases. We just can't expect the dogs to change that much, we have to meet them half way, at least. I’m glad you were able to learn the true treasures in life, before it’s too late.

Remember that interview (some time ago) with Cesar Milan? And he said his yorkie was about 80% housetrained??

That makes me feel better.

I wrote an article some years ago for the Yorkshire terrier magazine....I wrote about what I would not and did not accept in the first 3 breeds I got my children...all were rehomed and I told my children..."WE ARE NOT DOG PEOPLE"....then my father gave my girls a Yorkie, (female adult for Christmas)...I allowed that Yorkie to do all the things the other 3 breeds did and more...WHY??? Yorkies are so human I could never bare to live without them...one Yorkie named "Sissy" started it all.....

I hope you find the story too. I've had lots of different dogs all my life, and there's no doubt there is something very different about this breed. I almost feel like I have to earn Joey's love! He’s a challenge that’s for sure.

I too would like to read that article you wrote.

Yorkies have a way of taking over and changing their people. I laugh thinking about walking into my boys' breeder's home and thinking, what is all of this stuff? There were beds and toys and gates and grooming supplies. Now my home is adorned with all that stuff. My car too.

Do you remember when you wrote that article? I used to get The Yorkshire Terrier magazine for years (years ago) and I think I've read that article. I should subscribe again. I do miss it - it's an enjoyable read.

That's about the time I started getting it. After getting Cricket, a breeder I met told me about the magazine and recommended getting it to learn more about yorkies. I'm going to go looking and see if I saved that one. I saved a few. They always had great articles and stories.

My baby (2 yrs old) Bella is mostly potty trained. When I rescued her at age 1 she was NOT potty trained at all. When I got her and began potty training "outside" was a bad word to her. I'm guessing when on the rare occasion the old owner tried to take her outside I'm guessing they were not nice to Bella about it because when I would say "outside" she would start shaking . It took us a good month to learn that it wasn't a bad word. I'd always say it in the sweetest tone & constantly praise her when she started to willingly come to me on her own to go outside. I would say she is 95% potty trained. Still has tge occasional accidents. Lately she gas been doing it inside more frequently. I'm not sure why either because she still is taken out 6-8 times a day. My husband was deployed overseas so maybe she was upset with him being gone, as she lives her daddy very much.

I used to feel the same way, but now I also think that it's best for the baby to get another chance with someone else, someone that see them as beings able to feel and hurt. I would prefer that people who see them as 'Just dogs" don't adopt them at all. It wastes the poor baby's chances at a real home
