I also agree that ignoring the mistakes and praising the success is the best way to housebreak a puppy. It worked well on Rory. Lane (our puppymill rescue) has been with us for 2.5 years, and she is the queen of the quarter sized marking spots, but full accidents aren't all that uncommon. You'd think she has won Westminster with the celebration we throw everytime she uses her pad. She is so proud of herself too - she'll run head and tail up prancing to the kitchen cabinet where all their treats are! I just love to see her feeling confident about herself!

I have found if I catch her in the act, and do the ah, ah, ah sound. She'll usually stop and look at me, at which point I have her finish on the pad. I'm not sure if she's made the connection there or not - we like to joke she is the "pretty" one.

I love the way you are describing this, and what's even more important to me than the housebreaking is that you are teaching confidence. I really believe that a dog that is confident, is less likely to display aggressive qualities toward humans and other dogs, I think it is the "fearful" animal that is most aggressive. I believe as pet owners we owe it to our pets to train them so well, that if anything should happen to us, they could EASILY find a perfect home.

Perhaps the OP is a troll? Anyway, as far as potty training, my pup is 10 weeks and she is doing extremely well with potty training and the use of crate. Although Im pretty sure she has a long way to go before Im comfortable with letting roam my home all alone, but I think she is holding her own to be young.

Too bad you are No Longer A Member. I would have liked to introduced you to the Air Force Pilot, the student Engineer, the defender of Yorkies who took a hawk for a walk on a leash. They all have a very similar way of posting and treating their Yorkies and you all have so much in common with each other it would have been a friendhship sealed with Yorkie Love! Sad to see you go but for some reason all of the others are gone as well. Maybe you will find each other in the real world...........

This is 2011, where your yorkie has more clothes than you, has more toys, things to play with, wears 200$ + swarovski crystal collars, harnesses, wears diapers, belly bands, sleeps more comfortable than most humans, has more beds and blankets than they even use, has better food than what most of their owners eat, has strollers, goes everywhere with their human, has a car seat... etc etc

To me my Yorkie is my child, as nutty as I sound. I think I would sound like a dumb bunny if I said any different! To rub a living breathing creatures nose in its own Pee is a very sad thing to do.

I doubt they live in the real world. Great post
