Thor's Human Donating Member | Sounds like you might need to tire him out a bit before the training session. Why don't you play fetch with him for fifteen minutes and then see how he does?

| I put him in a lay position so his front feet are forward. I then put a treat in my hand and start at his nose and move it towards his tail. Naturally when his nose follows to the tail he begins to roll. Push Denzel over the rest of the way and treat him when he's fully over. I trained my 2 year old dog to do this a while back. I just trained Max, my 5 month old on Saturday. It took him about 10 tries and he's now rolling over! I'll either make one or look for a video.

| This video is good. I don't give treats at every single progression though.

| I try to tire my girl out before our little training sessions. I've also had to go back and start some tricks over. She knows how to give me her paw, but like yours, jumps up and goes crazy. So now I make her sit and wait first and if she hops up we start over. She's starting to get the hang of it. Unfortunately, I don't have advice on roll over! My family went on vacation with my neighbor watching my dog and when we came back she knew how to roll over! |

When he's doing something wrong, I'll say 'Uh oh'... He'll go back to his sitting position and waits for the next command. Last edited by noisinka; 10-14-2010 at 12:57 AM. | |

| I don't think roll over should be encouraged. I know it may sound extreem. But if you will know anything about stomach bloat you will understand why. Some people think it only happens with big dogs. While its more common in bigger dogs, it does happen with yorkies. Its fatal. Its hit home for me, its not a command to do as a part of regular training. Just my thoughts. Do a little research. It may suprise you. Quote:
