roll over/shake? its a mess now Hey guys im having the hardest time with getting Denzel to roll over lately he's been so hyper when i tell him to sit he will when i say paw he will give me his paw but jump up at the same time any solutions to fixing that? because before i used to say paw he would give me his paw then i would say other paw he would give me his other paw. anyway when i get him to lay he wont lay long enough for me to try to get him to roll over sooo any ideas for me?? |
Sounds like you might need to tire him out a bit before the training session. Why don't you play fetch with him for fifteen minutes and then see how he does? |
Thank you i will try that but whats a good method to try to get him to roll over? |

did you put the treat next to his rear? |

I trained my 2 year old dog to do this a while back. I just trained Max, my 5 month old on Saturday. It took him about 10 tries and he's now rolling over! I'll either make one or look for a video. |
This video is good. I don't give treats at every single progression though. |

get a really yummy treat and do it as quickly as possible. he shouldn't be on his back very long at all. |
I try to tire my girl out before our little training sessions. I've also had to go back and start some tricks over. She knows how to give me her paw, but like yours, jumps up and goes crazy. So now I make her sit and wait first and if she hops up we start over. She's starting to get the hang of it. :) Unfortunately, I don't have advice on roll over! My family went on vacation with my neighbor watching my dog and when we came back she knew how to roll over! :) |

When he's doing something wrong, I'll say 'Uh oh'... He'll go back to his sitting position and waits for the next command. |

I don't think roll over should be encouraged. I know it may sound extreem. But if you will know anything about stomach bloat you will understand why. Some people think it only happens with big dogs. While its more common in bigger dogs, it does happen with yorkies. Its fatal. Its hit home for me, its not a command to do as a part of regular training. Just my thoughts. Do a little research. It may suprise you. Quote:
