| How do I get George to hop in my car George will not come with me when I go out, I have to chase him to pick him up cause he knows when I get my shoes on etc I'm going out, some days I just leave him at home, he's really really pleased to see me when I get home but next day same thing, even when I say to him we are going to see madie and Sophie (his best doggy friends his ears perk up but still he wont come) if I get his harness and lead out he's there like a shot cause he knows its walk time, he has his own car seat in my car and a blanket and pillow in hubbies car which he knows is his spot. Any ideasI've never had this problem before, ususally its hard to get in the car without a dog but George is very different (beautiful but different)

No Longer a Member | I'd like to know too, Rizzo hates car rides and if I call him from the front door and I have 2 sets of keys in my hand he runs the other way, or lays down like he is in trouble. If I have one set of keys he comes running (my front door locks when I close it, so when we play out front got to have those keys) He also has a in car harness and a pillow to get cozy on, but he just really hates the car. Once we get to where we are going he is pleased as can be, but the whole process of getting him into the car sucks! |

| Since he comes to put his harness & leash on maybe you could put that on & lead him to your car? That's the only suggestions I have.

| Jackson has always loved going somewhere, or going in the car, but he started pulling that crap where he would know we were leaving, and I was taking him with me... and he'd run. I think it was all a big game to him. 99.9% of the time when we get into the car, it's somewhere fun and positive, so he knew we were going somewhere good but would decide to run off anyways and play a game of catch me if you can. I tried walking out the door, acting like I was leaving, then coming back in. Didn't work. He knows the command sit and listens pretty well, so I would sternly just say 'sit' and snap my finger, and he started doing it. But what I did before this... I sort of de-sensitized him to his harness. He went through the phase where he didn't like the harness, even though again, it was always used for good to go outside. I had pinched him once while putting it on by accident, and he didn't like it anymore. So I slowly would put the harness on the ground, and place a few treats near the harness. Then I'd put the treats ON the harness and he'd have to go eat them off of it. Then I would go towards him, as if I was putting the harness on his head (but stopped) and he got a treat. I took it slow and after two days of this... he was fine. He now voluntarily steps into his harness, and gets his leash on, and goes out the door. He always would just hop right in the car by himself, but now it's becoming more of an issue since we got in a car accident over a month ago. He no longer voluntarily jumps. I kind of have to drag him, and once he gets close enough to the vehicle, he realizes he has to jump in. I think it will just take practice, patient and lots of treats and positive reinforcement!

Senior Yorkie Talker | Hmm...I usually always have lexi on a harness and leash. I use the leash to show her where she is going and becasue im firm with her going one direction (which is towards the car) she justs jumps right in. But for my bf's car for example is a truck so she has trouble jumping up. She has tried but seems a bit scared to do so.
