What unique trick does your yorkie do? Aside from the common tricks, what unique thing does your yorkie do? Lexi will watch T.V on command. She has always liked watching t.v and it's not uncommon for her to plop her butt down in front of the tube for an entire show. We simply just associated a term with it. "Lexi, what's on TV?" she'll run up to any t.v and watch it. She also likes to watch the fish, so if I ask her "where are your fish friends?" she'll run up to the tank. |
That's so stinkin cute. Does she like Animal Planet? Bud could care less about TV. He never watches it. His most unique trick this month is going into his bed and staying there, forever, until I allow him to come back out. Wonderful trick this is, thanks to our trainer. Why didn't I ever think of this on my own. Even when the door bell rings he stays there instead of jumping all over people when they come in. It's heaven:p |
Lexi's tricks sound cute! It's not cute or anything, but there are two that Kaji does. 1. "Show me your belly"- He flips over so I can clean his paw paws or his Mr Peeper. :p 2. "Not to far"- for when we're at a safe park and he's off leash. I only have to say it once or twice to create a border. He knows not to get past that distance. |
Oh this should be an interesting thread!! :) Chloe's "unique" tricks are: 1. Stick 'em up (front paws up in the air, balanced on hind legs) and Bang! (falls over from the first position and lays on her back, showing her belly) 2. Where's your "name of toy"? She knows flower (a PetStages toss ring toy), rabbit (Skinneez rabbit), ball, kong, and rope pretty reliably. She will also go looking for my husband if I ask her "Where's Jeremy?" We're trying to teach her to come find me as well but this is hard b/c my husband doesn't have as much time to work with her as I do and I can't very well give the command myself! :) 3. What have you got!? This one kind of happened by accident as she's always picking up small rocks from our driveway when we go potty then bringing them back in the house to play with. When we notice that she's got something in her mouth, we walk over with hands on hips and ask "What have you got!?" She rolls over on her back and looks all sweet and innocent (usually while also trying to hide the item under her tongue or by dropping it and laying her head on top of it). The "Not too far" command sounds awesome!! Sure wish I could teach that one to Chlo! -C |
These are all so cool. I would love to have a signature trick, but I'm not creative enough to come up with one. In the park, I use "By Me" to indicate he should stay in my general vicinity. He's got really good recall, but I was having trouble with him repeatedly heading back over to what I called him away from in the first place. Which makes perfect sense: either he gets to do something naughty, or Mommy will call him back and give him a treat! I also use "All Done" in the park to indicate he's on his own time and can go do whatever he wants (as opposed to "Okay", which means, you're good for that one command, but keep paying attention to me). I've tried to use "All Done" indoors to indicate we're finished with training / giving out treats, but he always hopes I don't really mean it. |
I know other dogs can do this but I don't know if it is typical for a yorkie. Jamie can catch a fly ball (a soft ball) mid-air. My husband was playing fetch with her and she started wating for it and catching it in her mouth. Everytime she catches it we make a big fuss and you just know she is so proud of herself. |

Gosh, I guess that I better get busy with Buddy to teach him something other than "off" (and the breeder taught him that before I got him!). You guys have some talented babies. |
The best way to describe this I guess is: imagine a swimmer, approaching the wall to do a turn underwater and start a new lap... Well, Tinkerbell will run towards my DH when he comes home from work, and will launch herself about 5 feet in front of him, then turns in midair, and as she's dropping to the ground, her legs start running, and as she hits the ground, she hasn't had to change gears at all, and continues running, in the opposite direction! Most amazing thing I've ever seen a dog do. This is a natural behavior I witnessed, I need to associate it with a command to get her to do it on command.... |
plays ball I didn't think this was too unusual, but those at the dog park were astonished by Jonah's ability to catch. They said they had never seen a small dog, Jonah (6#5oz) leap up into the air as high as he does to to catch a ball and of course he brings it back to me. He also uses a "big dog ball", no one can believe it will fit in his mouth! Almost entered him in a fly ball class but thought the better of it when I learned what a competitive group it was!:) |

Roxy has no real tricks :( This is sad....she is so darn cute though!!! She Loves to play with her toys. Right now as I am typing she is putting her toy on my keyboard and growling at me so I will throw it. If I dont throw it she climbs on the keyboard of my laptop and stares at me....shes so darn funny!!! She also knows my kids my name, I guess that is a trick. I will tell her "Find Eli" and she will go to him and bark. She does this with everyone in the house. :) Now if I could only teach her to "sit" (she lays down.) |
Ok I guess this is my turn to brag. Uni is the queen of quirky tricks! Playing basketball: Doing the "Jack Sparrow run" and faints on cue: Catching her kibble, but she tells me when to throw: Busting outta jail: Ok I'll stop now. :) We have gotten Katie doing the "shamu" which is having her jump up pretty high to get her kibble, like how Shamu does it out of the water to get his fish. And since she's a little butterball, she kind of looks like a whale. :D |
OMG uni is so adorable in those clips!! I love the fainting!!! I should train Roxy to so that when she sniffs my husbands feet....thats some bad stuff right there!! |
Uni is SO CUTE! hysterical! How on earth did you get her to do those things? |

Hmm... unique for Jackson.. I mean he knows a ton of tricks but I got them all from other peoples videos and a trick book so I don't know if they're "unique." These are his latest tricks, I guess the more unique ones would be limping on command, getting me a tissue, saying his prayers... the rest are the roll overs, play deads, etc but I'm so proud of everything he's learned and he's my smart little buddy! :D so I'll take any moment to brag about him! |
How did I teach Uni? I have waaaaaay too much time on my hands! the Jack Sparrow run anyone can teach, just make them stand up and pull the kibble away, and they will "walk" but Uni does it all funny and drunken style, so we named it the Jack sparrow run. the fainting, we tried to teach bang! play dead, and she got scared of the bang noise, so we had her lay down and did the bad breath thing since we are bad breathed rum soaked pirates. Our friend said she does that so well bc our breath really stinks! :D Brit, I think Jackson's unique trick is the limp. I for the life of me CANNOT get uni to do it. I gave up. And he got it in like 2 days. |

Oh and I am still working on getting Jackson to limp longer tho! I want him to limp more than 3 times! So we're working on that. |

Priscilla, I finally got Kaji to crawl!! He does it more like an army crawl because he exaggerates the "arm" movement. We're thinking of strapping a toy gun to his back and calling it the army crawl. :) Kaji is so funny! I played the vid where Uni is catching her kibble, and he sat up after her first bark, watched the entire thing cocking his head, and when it was over he just went back to sleep. I guess he was disappointed Uni disappeared from the screen. |
OMG! Love the videos of Uni and Jackson! They are both so talented! I love seeing all the different things that other dogs can do. I've got to get busy, love the different tricks. Always looking for something different to teach them! |

Yay on the army crawl! Still working on the crawl with Katie. Not much progress. |
Uni's coming!?! Kaji is going to be so excited! |
she wants to come, BUT we shall she how she behaves this week. I guess it was my bad I teased her :( oops LOL! anyway, she totalyy cocked her head! |
video Yes, a video! I have thought about doing this and maybe today will be the day. I need to find a friend or use a tripod. Fast action like this is very hard to capture especially when the object (Jonah) is small and I throw the ball quite far. But, it will be more fun then the chore I should be doing (staining the deck)!;) |
Bax is so bad with tricks, we'll have to keep working on them! He get's "sit" and "lay down" mixed up (if he listens at all). I usually get a look like "um, no." He does come to me, and he knows jump up, move please (for when he's under my feet or in the way), go get Wendy (my little sister), cuddle (he'll come lay with me when i tell him that), go home (when we're outside), go play (when he's super annoying), and the most adorable: kisses. I can either say kisses, make a kissy face or noise and he'll run up and give kisses. That's the only one he's got down 100%. We're working on it! |
Bentley has 2 fantastic tricks! 1. Patience, he know is I am trying to teach him something, and he plays "dumb" long enough, I'll give up! Smart boy, eh? :D I am so-o proud! 2. "Spit it out", no matter what it is a mitten, paper, toy, or dinner, he pushes it out of his mouth :p with his tongue, :D then looks at me to see if I am going to try to take it! If I want it, I say "leave it", 98% of the time he will. (I never say leave it with kibble, that I've asked him to spit out... that would be mean!)  He also dances, but that isn't unique... he jumps up and does a really clumsy looking spin, and repeats, until he gets the treat! |
