| Scared of Leash!?!? So Maggie just had her last shots so she can go outside now. However, she is terrified of her leash. I let her smell it, and it was okay. I put it on her and she wouldn't move. I have seen sit in the same position for so long. She finally moved around 3 times and I took it off her. This morning when my roommates dog was getting ready to go out for his walk she started to get excited so I was like hmm I will go get her stuff and test the waters. She was scared of her harness which she got over quickly but as soon as i grabbed the leash she made a dash. So I just took and put it on the floor today. She has sniffed it twice but avoids it. Actually goes out of her way to avoid it. It is a retractable leash but when I have been putting on her I pull it out a ways, and then lock it. I have never hit, and I watch her like a hawk. I can't figure out why she is scared of the leash. She is now 16 weeks. Any suggestions would be welcomed on what to do with Maggie because I really want to be able to take out and for runs now that she is getting older, and I know she loves to run. Thanks in advance, Sarah |

Thor's Human Donating Member | Welcome to YT! You said it's a retractable leash? So it has a heavy handle, right? Generally, you get puppies comfortable with their harnesses and leashes by putting them on and letting them drag them around the house. You do this several weeks before actually taking them outside. Now, you probably can't have her drag around a retractable leash. Do you have a short nylon one you can substitute for now? She may also feel less intimidated by that one. Just go slow, and you can always use treats.

| The leash I have is very light, and small. She can actually pick it up in her mouth if she wants. What I do during is pull it out to the length of the leash. It is made just like a wide lesh not a thin string. I then lock it so it has the length and she can walk around with it and has. I guess what scares her is something locking on to her. IDK. I have had many many many dogs in my life and all them just have naturally loved leashes. Not Maggie. Sarah |

| She loves the harness we have been doing that for a week. Its her "bling". Anything that dresses her up she loves. In fact she gets upset if I take her harness from her. So its just the leash, when i put her harness on she was scared of it for all of 20 minutes and then she was good with it. Warm Regards, Sarah |
